the blood splatter graphic exudes the metal vibe...look at the other manufacturers' offerings for "metal" basses and you will see what I mean...I have an NS2A(I think) and I have used it for swamp blues, slap funk, rock and even in church....I probably need a 5 string but I am not in the market for one right now. I have waited a LONG time to get this bass and it has not let me down...If I was more on the surface (instead of being on everybody's records) I would prob seek some kind of endorsement myself but..... you know....and I play metal when asked also.

After all that..... My Spectors have been used for everything from children's albums, to country (awesome for country actually), to classic rock and top 40 , to rock and death metal. They suit everything well usually with just a twist of the treble knob , and /or a turn of the blend knob. They go from mellow to aggro and everything inbetwen.

Having said that, and considering myself more of a metal player, there really is no better of a sonic hammer than a Spector at full growl. The beauty of the beast is that it can and does all things equally well. Which is why I play Spector basses. Reguardless of the music, I have never gotten anything other than compliments on my basses.

Were in negotiations with a label currently on recording a single to market, and my green dougie will be all over it as well

The thing that makes them so popular with the metal crowd is the tone. When you need to cut through yet support 2 guitars with big tones and a loud drummer, Spector delivers.

What styles do you play? There are some good clips out there and on here. Agreed though , you will have to sort through lots of metal clips first. Sorry , its the best tool for that job imo, others seem to agree SS well

And I play everything, but I want growls in everything, which is why I'm looking at Spectors. My Bongo doesn't growl that much and its mids are really bugging me. I tried Stingrays and Fender Jazzes but something's just missing.

I think that metal players find them, because Spector electronics have boasted a thundering growl like no other bass for a long time.
I have had my NS4CR for 16 years, and I have yet to play another bass that comes close to the aggressive sound I get from mine. They are TIGHT!

Yeah, I play metal too, well not all the time but I still love the growl. The guys playing metal on Youtube seem to be making clanky sound without any bass or growl.

You'll find lots of metal guys love spector, why not? they're great basses. I think its unfortunate so much of their marketing is focused on the metal guys because they're great for any music that requires an electric bass.

What kind of info are you looking for?

Just sound clips. I found some in the previous Spector Club threads though and they helped.

I'm not upset with Clearwave... actually I agree with the comments.

I do feel the need to defend Alex a little, because just like Worship said, Cannibal Corpse is like Kiss, you either love them or hate them... and with CC it's an even more extreme thing than Kiss. IMHO. So I totally get it. But want to defend someone I've come to consider a friend, and to be honest, I don't listen to CC. Not my thing. But I do enjoy some of the Blotted Science stuff. You can't mistake the music talent there.

And I'm more in marketing research mode than anything... I've been working like crazy to get the "Spector is a metal bass" myth exterminated... and it's lingering, like a really bad stinky... well... you guys know. It's the shard I wish I could get everyone to forget happened. LOL.

So really I'm sincerely more interested in why Clearwave is feeling this way, now, and in understanding this I might see something or understand something I'd overlooked before.

My ultimate goal is to help make Spector better. Period. And you all have no idea how instrumental you've been.

When I get asked a question from PJ or Stuart about this or that... I've often quoted YOU GUYS and said, here's what the guys on TB are saying.

All of you matter. I wouldn't be doing near as good a job as a consultant with them if you guys were not sharing openly.

So my apologies to Clearwave. I see (after I wrote the thing defending Alex) that his comment wasn't about Alex but about the silly nature of that bloody design.

And I can totally respect that.

So there's no issues with me... I'm very appreciative of Clearwave's honesty. I really am.

A few things.....

2.) Patrick, I don't think its that Spector is marketing towards metal bassist, or even that the website is skewed that way. I think it is that more and more popular hard rock/metal bassists use Spector and it is a lot more visible than say some one like Abe Millet that is using a bass that looks like a fender. It just doesn't stick out like the NS basses.

I totally agree. It is a very popular bass for metal/hard rock because of the growl and ability to cut through the mix.

And to me one major problem with the Coda-Standard models are that from a distance you'd see it and think it was a Fender. At least the Deluxe models have the crown inlays, which again at a distance could be the rectangle Fender Jazz blocks.

So heck yeah... when you see an NS, you know it.

3.) I don't think Clearwave thinks Alex or his bass are a joke. It is simply a very custom looking bass. Its kind of like someone who isn't a KISS fan (they exist right?) might laugh that those guys dress up, wear makeup and platform shoes. I don't take Clearwaves comments as negative really. Just the POV of someone maybe not into a bass with graphics.

Yeah I get that. And great analogy with the Kiss thing. You either feel them or don't.

Although I'll say if you'd never seen Kiss but heard Black Diamond, Cold Gin, She, or any number of their mid-1970's/late 1970's stuff, they were and are a great rock band. I'm not going to hate on those guys ever. They've made some really great music that has stood the test of time.

I encourage anyone who can't remember what the songs I mentioned above sound like to go and look them up, close your eyes, and listen.

4.) Clearwave, Nikki's reggae and slap sections where enough to showcase the bass, I think. I wasn't blown away, but the video was just to show the range of tones, not Nikki's playing. Plus remember that bass is strung BEAD, so its not going to have the same killer slap that standard tuning would

+100%. She's an excellent rock/metal bassist. I think she's been working really hard to expand her range. And I'm proud of her for putter herself out there like that.

She's unfortunately always had to deal with male musicians disrespecting her because she is a very, very pretty woman, and she's very serious about music. So she's sensitive to people being rude to her just because.

I think your comments, and Clear's, are fair.

unfortunately we only got one video and the audio was horrible. We should have some better stuff next saturday. We are opening for Chemicals of Democracy and Spector artist John Catania, before they head out the Europe for a huge festival... Check these guys out if you Metal \m/.

One of our fans is an amateur photographer, so later this week I should have some cool action shots.

O ya and a praise for my rig.... the sound tech (bassist for another local band) for the show said "man your bass was just cutting so good I turned you almost off in FOH.. It just sounded great coming from your amp.... I was on 4.5 lol Love my rig

Instead of trying to bury it , Imo. It would be cool to embrace it and maybe put players together that wouldn't normally go together. I would love to see Alex and Doug or Robbie and someone else from the opposite end of the spectrum doing a duet kind of thing. Maybe not a duet, but maybe having two very different artists doing the tone demo thing together for the same model. No one's done much of that before I think because they try and keep the stigmas associated with the styles seperate.

That's one of the things about spector , reguardless of the music there's a deep love of the basses themselves and brand as a whole shared by all.

Spector's Metal heritage can't be denied. I just wouldn't want someone not trying one because they think Metal is all it's good for.

That's the fight I'm fighting.

Yeah duet wasn't what I really ment. Talking shop and sharing info on the same model is the deal. Imo. That would better show the flexability on the tones (their favorite settings live and studio maybe?).

One other thing maybe.... Spectors can be a handful in the studio. Maybe an interview with an engineer with tips on getting the most from these basses in the studio? I'm sure a lot of guys have used a few of the same people to record with to get some of those legendary Spector tones. Just a thought.
