Are they nickel or SS strings?

I was thinking about getting a set of red ones for my cherryburst NS20005 but the strings that came on it are ok so I haven't done it yet.

I believe they're nickel with a round core, basically Sunbeams with the K3 coating. So far I really like them, and I've heard they last a long time.

They are nickel for sure.

I think evanatch is correct they are basically Sunbeams with the K3 coating.

I stumbled into a rather interesting little music shop tonight and found a Spector for sale. I couldn't find a serial number anywhere on it. The owner was kind enough to pull off the back to see if it was hidden in the cavity but no number there. Can anyone tell me what I'm looking at here?

It's the blue 4 string I'm asking about not the black 5.

Thanks!!!

I believe that is a NS-2002B (all the way at the bottom bottom of this webpage)

I agree, NS-2002B, it is a Performer class before they released the Performer series.

So even brand new they listed around $500 if I'm reading the web page correctly?

Correct, that would have been the list back then.

Used I would say that should sell for around $200ish.

Keep in mind a New Performer now lists for $599 and usually sells for around $399 street price.

I was wondering if someone can give me some info on this model? I found it on craigslist for $300.

Spector (SSD) NS-94 bass. Has Hipshot De-Tuner and the Electronics are EMG BTS pre and EMG HZ pups. Frets look pretty good, but the 23/24 toward the G string could use a little filing. Neck is great, truss rod is fine, weighs in at around 10 lbs.

I'm not familiar with this model and I can't find too much info online. Is this worth taking a chance on?

If I was anywhere near Seattle and/or had a grandma to borrow $300 from, I'd be all over that.

Here is a link to the one that I mentioned earlier.

BassDoc51

I actually purchased that bass, the seller also had it listed here on Talkbass.

FYI,
These are very similar to NS-2As, just a different body shape since they were made during the SSD era, when Spector was unable to use the original NS design.

There is also a 5 string version (NS-95) 34" scale.

SamAsh used has a few for sale on their used site.

This bass was actually for sale on ebay back in January from a Pawn Shop in Florida.

I had my eye on it and I almost went for it.

I found this link in the sellers buyer history on ebay.
OLD SPECTOR EURO 4-STRING ELECTRIC BASS GUITAR | eBay

If you look close at the screws in the PUPs they are really rusted.
Also, the bridge in the photos from the current seller from his listing on ebay, the saddles are much higher up then they were in the original sale photos.

I think this bass must have had some major neck issues and the seller is trying to unload it quickly.

I have gotten basses from FLA before and the salt air rusts things quickly...change in temp could have dramatically affected it also from FLA to WA...or it just had a neck issue to begin with....some folks are not good at taking care of their instruments...

Hey Grendle, can we get a full bass shot of the green monster?

Need some new ones but I have these:

The quilt stays even all the way to the end of the body, but it flops in the light and looks like it doesn't in the pics. Absolutely love this bass. How are you liking yours? The neck is definitely different than the std models but as soon as I held it I was in love :)

I have had 3 Spectors...all Czecks...I had a really pretty blue one and a red one but found that I liked the natural maple one the best. Every soundman I've ever worked with just raves about them, and that's with me bringing 3 or 4 other big named basses to gigs. I've almost sold it about 4 times, and in the past week I was thinking about it again and just for grins dropped some DR sunbeams on it last night....the WOW is back. What a great sounding bass. I traded for this in around 2000 from the swami guy in PA and I have NEVER, not ONCE ever adjusted the neck and the action is perfect and I can play really fast on it.

Good to know. This guy has it in his shop on consignment for $275, which is a little high IMHO. But...now I know what to offer if I want it badly enough.

Thanks!
