SPECTOR® Club - Part 28

Update on my Forte:

As you may know I tried (unsuccessfully) to install the Haz in my Forte. There was a grounding issue that I could not resolve. So anyway after many a shed tear I packed her up and sent her back to the motherland....Woodstock.

The tech took one look at it and knew exactly what the problem was. Other than my shoddy wiring it seems that the Haz "board" was grounding out on the shielding. That's why as long as it wasn't tight I had sound. As soon as I tightened the pre using the pot nuts it would cut out.

Anywho's....so as you may know I broke off a post (like someone else here:hiding:) on the Haz pre and had to end up soldering the wire to the board. No big deal really...I was comfortable with that. Well it turns out the tech gave me a completely new Haz, wired it for me AND (get this) set the bass up for me. He took a back bow out of the neck and lowered the action a tad, which I like! He installed my knobs, polished it up and sent her back all in a 2 day window!

But wait, there's more......

And here's the best part. They charged my shipping back......THAT's IT. $37.50. Think Fender would do that?:D

Lesson learned: if you're installing the Haz make sure you have washers on the back side of the board.

I don't tune BEAD often, but I have done it several times and it sounds great.
Maybe in theory it sounds light, but in practice it's fine.
The obvious solution would be to buy a 5-string set and omit the G...I love the LaBella HRS strings on my Euro5 too!

Haven't had any problems with my Euro5LX. Self inflicted or not. But it's good to hear SPECTOR stands behind their product. And this isn't the first story I've heard of SPECTOR doing this kind of thing. Add this type of CS to an already great instrument and you've got a customer for life. :bassist:

I had a very similar experience years ago. That's one of the reasons I will always wave the Spector flag!! Great company, great basses, great customer service!! :bassist:

Many companies could learn a thing or two from them.

DR's are winning me over. I have to give them a shout for good CS as well. When I was installing the strings, and was bringing the B string to tension, it came unravelled right at the post. I had three wraps on the post, and had crimped the string prior to cutting as they say to do on the hi beams. I emailed them about it, and got a fresh B no charge. Big thanks for that. Anyway, I haven't had time to run it through my main rig, but I like the sound I'm getting at home. They are clear, but in a thumpy, old school kind of way. The Cold Steels are my other preferred strings, and their tone is a clear, bell-like piano tone. THe DR's have the same clarity, but just a more rounder tone with my Spector. So far, so good. Tuning stability is exceptional. THanks to everyone who recommended them.

Wow! That is CS at it's best!!! Awesome story, thanks for sharing with us! It's good to know for us that hadn't run into those situations yet that'll we will be taken care of well.

Awesome! I am very happy with this and proud to play my Spectors everywhere. Videos are coming! I am thinking about doing a couple to demonstrate the sounds of the 5 basses since all of mine are different...
