Wow.....I've been missing out!
Between 2 jobs, 3 times band practice and everything else...I haven't even had a chance to browse through TB...Even worse, I haven't even had a chance to plug my bass through my rig yet!!!
Tomorrow is the day though! Going early to the jam space and going to create some NS2 soundscapes!

Band is going great! We've been working hard on getting the songs tight. It's been a most challenging experience so far for me and I love it!!

All I've had time to do is take some photos... The pics are waaay too light...I should take better ones that do the colour justice.

Man, the grain on that NS-2 is just amazing. Glad to hear the band is going great and can't wait to hear what you think when you play through your rig

Wow. Rehearsal 3 times a week? Is that typical for a pro band or a band that wants to go pro. I ask because my band only rehearses once a week. I mean we're a bunch of 45+ part time musicians with full time jobs or self employed, married, kids, mortgages. You know, the whole nightmare. Nobody in my band is having visions of tour busses dancing in their heads. But on a few songs someone misses a change or we wind up looking at each other cuz no one remembers how the song is supposed to end. Is this just a lack if rehearsal time? We record most everything so we can practice at home but still it happens. We just want to be a good bar band and gig about once a month. Any advise?

I'm not sure what the norm is. But I am married, no kids no mortgage. The other guys in the band are in the same boat. So other than work and some personal stuff, I've made sure I can commit myself to 3 times a week. For various reasons.
1. Is to learn and to get better
2. I think the band has potential, we have no tour bus aspirations, but want to become good musicians and songwriters. My motto is musicianship first.
3. Playing makes me super happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
4. I am yet to play a live show so that is driving me to practice a lot more!
5. All of the above.

With my short run with my other project, we jammed twice a week, both days together. Which made 5 days without jamming. I felt that was a waste of time because it takes time to grease the engine every time. Even an hour doing so is an hour wasted is what I say.
So now, it's Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Keep things fresh and alive.


None of us in the band is a "pro" by any stretch of imagination. We all bond on one thing and that's the musical style we play and listen to. It's very vast and it shows in what they have written so far which is why I like it. We have a lot of work ahead of us.

It is not uncommon when prepping for tour or other to practice 3-4 times a week to get everything tight for the road...usually done a number of weeks/months before tour starts so everything is worked out..

I know that my band schedule for what being in a band that wanted to and did get signed and start touring was as followed...

Practice at least twice a week... Usually a 2-4hours at least. That consisted of going thru the set a couple times as a warm up and then going thru the newest song in order to keep it as tight as the old ones. then writing or working on parts of an unfinished song.

Made it a point to do "out of town shows" at least once a month.

Did in town shows also but it's as important to pick what shows you do and don't because there's not only a lot of politics that go on in local scenes but you don't want to make fans think "I can just catch the new show, they always play"

Also we made it a point to actually have band meetings to discuss merch, deadlines for money e band needed, what everyone individually needed to do(tweets, Facebook, booking, misc. networking)

Band also has a van and trailer that costs money and up keep like oil changes, registration and insurance.


Oh and btw everyone 3 band members had full time jobs.. One is a air traffic controller and married.. I'm married and have a toddler... Another guy has a toddler. Marriages are shaky and the other guy sees his kid every few months...

It's to easy... And I look at it like college... You put in a time and money trying to balance life and school(band and hopefully you get a career in a few years.

PS: all that doesn't include all the phone calls, emails, tweets, and practice at home.



It sounds bad... But it's something some musicians just need in their lives.

That's some good advice there. As a newbie, I'll take that!!
Since I joined, I've suggested doing some restructuring and refocusing on some things that haven't been done before or have been done the wrong way.
They've been at it since 2006, and with me in now, I've got some fire up my arse to get everyone excited again!

If you want any advice feel free to PM me also! I won't say I know everything but the advice I will give I can tell you both the pros and cons and why the band did it.

It's ALWAYS nice getting that new guy who's fired up. A band needs people who can keep focus on the overall goal. I stepped down from my last band because of that. I sucks that it was a couple months prior to getting signed... But it's nice to know I'm capable of music that can get there.

It's nice having a minute to breathe and refine certain playing aspects that I wasn't able to when I needed to be in "band mode"

In my band we practice twice a week (mid week and saturday) unless we have a show, then once. If its a big show we shoot for twice during the week.

When the guitarist and I were writing we got together 3 times a week and had 1 band practice.... it was a lot to handle, but it was only for a few months..

Hmmm, I'm thinking about darkbass's Rebop

It looks nice. Not sure what year - if it has the pre-trimpot TonePump or not. Looks like the PUPs were replaced as well as the bridge. Seems a bit pricey for me. I sold my 'new' Rebop 5DLX-EX for $950. I'm a sucker for natural finishes though. The one he has listed is sweet.

I am all about that and integrity is one of the reasons I have chosen to go with Spector...

I would add accessibility too. After meeting PJ last year - that pretty much sealed the deal with the Forte for me. Plus he was extremely helpful in getting a good price for a Rebop earlier last year. It almost feels like a privilege to do business with Spector.

I had a very similar experience years ago. That's one of the reasons I will always wave the Spector flag!! Great company, great basses, great customer service!!

Many companies could learn a thing or two from them.

And I wear my Spector T-shirt as often as possible.

I've been stricken with S.A.S. since I picked up a nice white NS-2A from bclark812008 a few weeks ago.

Somehow.. these two arrived on my doorstep in the past week.

Ya cover bands have an easier time practicing on their own. I've always like playing cover song gigs

Yeah, but amazingly enough, we had to fire our first drummer because he wouldn't practice at home and it took 2 hours to go through 1 song. LOL Our keyboard player gigs about 6 times a week. He's in our band, he has his solo 'lounge' act and his original band - so we try to schedule our gigs around his.

I was technically "unemployed" for the busier part it lol one of the better things to happen with the bad economy.

The price was a little high for me too, but after looking into it, it comes with the new pickups, and new trimpot tonepump, so I may jump on it. Still looking at a few other basses, though.
