SPECTOR® Club - Part 28

My band rarely ever practices . We are all covers . When we bring in one or two new tunes we run through them at sound check . Me and the guitarist are part of 3 bands together , two of which rarely ever play and our main band that plays 4 times a month . If we bring in 5 or more songs we will practice .

A year ago, one of the bands I was a part of we'd practice 4 days a week because we were adding a new setlist every 2 weeks.

One of my other bands,"Parallel 45", when we are getting ready for a gig we'll practice 3 days a week for a month before the gig. All of us are married, have kids, jobs.

Now my church band we just meet once a week on Wed. to run thru the music and your expected to practice the setlist at home. Then we have rehersal 1 hour before the service starts just to run thru/warm-up, last minute kinks. Sometimes not everyone makes it to Wed. practice.

Thanks for the input guys. A lot of good and useful stuff here. I'm going to relay it to my band. We're a cover band but the confusion comes because we like to rearrange songs to fit what we do. so we record rehearsal distribute the recording and practice at home. Seems like that should work but then the following week someone didn't practice at home then someone else gets a better idea for an arrangement so it get changed again.

I know the feeling, Rick. I have all the other responsibilities all our other cover band guys do: full-time job, child, family, etc...and I really want to make the band thing work as well. I'm a planner, and so I make sure I have all of my other responsibilities planned out 2-3 weeks ahead of time, and around other guys' schedule, so that the band situation can work for me...and not everyone does that. They forget that they have this-and-that to do. We'll all sit down and pick songs, and we'll all initially be excited about them. Then, inexplicably, this same guy has a 180-degree-change-of-heart on the songs, and looses all motiviation to even practice them. He's one of my very good friends, which makes it even more difficult. Our new band has its first show the end of April, and I'm not even sure if this guy wants to do it, or even practice for it. Really don't know what to do about it.

Can anyone here recommend a good place to order EMG pickups direct online? I've checked out a few of the online retailers listed on the EMG site but I wanted to get some personal experience feedback. It's hard to tell who has what in stock at some of these sites.

I'm specifically looking to order the 40P5 and 40J which don't seem to be in stock in a lot of places.

It's ALWAYS nice getting that new guy who's fired up. A band needs people who can keep focus on the overall goal. I stepped down from my last band because of that. I sucks that it was a couple months prior to getting signed... But it's nice to know I'm capable of music that can get there.

It's nice having a minute to breathe and refine certain playing aspects that I wasn't able to when I needed to be in "band mode"

Bunkaroo, I see you are living in Naperville. I am from Peoria and my Brother used to live in Naperville. I love the greater Chicago Area and need to visit all of my friends up there more often!

Has anyone tried a Coda 5?? I am looking for a 5'er with a modern/versatile pre and classic look. I am most interested in the neck...I would like a bit flatter neck and all the NT necks I have played have been of the baseball bat variety.

My Forte 4 has a bit of a flat spot all the way down the center of the neck that makes it play like a dream!!! :bassist: If I could get that replicated in a 5 that might seal the deal on me ordering one.

To me the Coda basses feel more like traditional jazz basses.

I got to play one side by side with an ns-5 and the ns-5 was definitely something that felt "normal" to me as a Spector player

Both are very comfortable though

Cool thanks. I had heard of them before so it's nice to know they're legit.

I've been in Naperville for about 7 years now - great place to raise kids! Unfortunately I'm not planning to LOL. So it gets a little too "family" oriented around here. I'm from the city originally.

I played a club in Peoria a couple years back. It was down the street from a place named Diesel. Diesel is what you think it would be I believe. ;)

This might sound a little crazy, but the band I play with in the summer prides ourselves on not practicing. We played 2 summers ago (Had to skip last summer with my health issues) and we literally had a set list and showed up to the gig and played. Everything went perfect, we actually sounded really good. Now, I should say these guys are great musicians and when we show up, everyone REALLY KNOWS their stuff. There is no half ass knowing anything, it is CD perfect (Covers).

That is part of being a pro in my mind, there is nothing worse or that gets on my nerves more than when you show up at a practice and you know your stuff inside and out and someone says "Hmm, maybe we should listen to it". No, maybe you should have spent the time I did learning your part, to not to is disrespectful, like your time is more valuable than mine?

This is of coarse for covers...
