Anyone have dead spots on their Spectors? Like the 5-7 frets on the G string on fender type basses?

One of the reasons I sold my SR5 is it had an ever so slight dead spot at the fifth fret on the G string. Thankfully my Euro5LX doesn't.

Had an audition last night for a semi-established band here in Vancouver. Went really well (better than I expected!)
It was just me and the vocalist/guitarist with background drums and samples. He liked it and aside from a couple of glitches on my behalf, it was pretty tight!
Jamming with the whole band on Friday and see how I mesh with the other 2 members.
Hopefully if it'll work out I'll start playing shows and tour!

I just did a marathon practice session and played my SSD NS-4CR for the majority of it. I'm actually pretty sure it's an NS-4CRFM, once I cleaned it up the flame top showed itself.

Holy crap it sounds good! Strung up with a heavy set of Rotos, played with a heavy handed pick, and going straight into a REDDI. It's bliss.

John Montagna talks about this in his my Spector Story video.

No. I've never seen, played or hear of a Spector having dead notes on the G-string or any other string.

The reason is sympathetic frequencies.

When the string vibrates at the same frequency that the wood of the bass neck (or fingerboard) vibrates at there's a cancellation of energy resulting in a "dead note" or a note that instantly has no sustain.

Because Stuart uses Rock Maple and either the deep pocket insert or the neck-thru construction, and he uses stainless steel truss rods and in the later models, carbon fiber supports, this has shifted the frequencies of the neck into an area where dead notes will not occur because the frequencies of the string are never in the same range.

At least that's the theory. It seems to work.

This was something Ned Steinberger spent a lot of time on when he was deciding to use Carbon/Graphite for the construction of his famous headless Steinberger bass. Rigid necks don't have dead notes.

It's also notable that Spector necks move less than more vintage or older type 4-bolt type necks. So less issues with tuning/intonation as you move from one environment to another. Typically.

The NSCR were all solid colors I believe. All the FM's were trans finish. Most likely flame under the solid colors as well though.

Oh I agree, never had a dead spot on any of my spectors. Just referring to a thread out there. One guy claims every bass has them. I've only seen them on fender types with one piece necks. I think he needs to put down the bong and buy quality gear.

Does anyone know the gauges of the Spector nickel strings? I really like that tension and I want to know what gauges they are so I can order a set of balanced Circle K's with a similar tension for my new Rex. I can't seem to find it on the website...
EDIT: After looking a little bit closer the medium set is 45-105, my bad.

Really nice. The harmonies, the atmosphere and the crunch blend well together. That would be a sweet gig to have. I hope you get it!!!!!

It's a stark contrast between my Rebop and the Forte. Not that it's a bad thing, more like...it's a better thing, lol! I'm just floored how good it sounded and felt. The OBP-2 is very responsive to the slightest nudge too.

Will do - we've got an average of 3 events a month with some casino slots coming up - I'll keep you posted.

I said it was mostly the bass and he told me "na dude you play it well."

Later in the night he said... " Holy crap!!! your bass sounds like Justins from Tool!" He was freaking out too lol

Looks like i am going to permanently mod my Euro running 18 volts. I'm looking to do another route on my Euro though for a battery compartment that will hold two 9 volt batteries. Does anyone know where i can get the battery compartment/control plate for my Spector? I've seen them on USA Spectors, but they don't have these in the Spector store online.
