Evan, WELL DONE!
Very impressive left hand technique, lots of fluid movement, fast fretting and even alternative tap style thrown in at the end. The recording didn't allow a lot of the bass sound to come through but what I did hear sounded great. Not sure how long you've been playing bass but I'm very impressed.
I find the REX5 perfect for a lot of the Muse songs with my favorite being Uprising. I think their bass player plays a Fender P bass on that song but the REX just sits in the mix so well for this type of music.

Couldn't hear very well but like the movement in the fingers!!...Good Job Evan!

Thanks a ton for the positive comments guys!! The Rex really does do the Muse tone well, my personal favorite song to play by them would probably be Bliss. I've been playing for about a year now, although over the summer I probably practiced around 5 hours a day or so. Sorry about the terrible sound quality, it was recorded with a crappy hand-held camera from the audience by my dad (who apparently just drank a lot red bull so his hands were shaking...). In order to actually hear the bass I have to listen to it with headphones.

So tonight and last night, I had my high school talent show. I played "Hysteria" by Muse and added my own solo at the end. It was a lot of fun and people seemed to love the Rex and the DR Neon strings. The Rex sounded and played great playing fingerstyle and tapping! That's probably not a bad idea. Even if we just have a backup in case Trace has so much going on so people can get a number.

The sound itself was better then I expected from being recorded from a hand held camera in a school auditorium. Your Dad did a fine job, nobody can hold a camera, zoom in and stay steady.

Ok , so here's my take on the cobalts after a 5 hr practice.

I haven't played strings that sound like these before. Their Definatly louder than hi beams by quite a bit. I had to turn down from my usual practice volume. They sound really good. Their new, bright , and have a big bump in the hi mids but don't have that zing of new steel strings. Well they are zingy acousticly but that zing doesn't come through when amplified. They give up a little bottom still to the hi beams though. In the studio or a recording situation I strongly believe these would shine and be my top choice for that kind of thing.

I was able to get great tones with very little eq on these, and solo the bass sounded great. The closest thing I can compair these to would be broken in blue steels. Imo the cobalt are a better sounding string though. They really let the harmonics jump and come very easily. They have a focused tone and I think a lot of people are really going to like these strings

The tension on these is good, they should be great for tuning down as well. They are noticeably tighter than hi beams ( we tune to dropped c# ) and they weren't floppy at all. I tuned them down to B just to check them out and they still felt good.

Will these be my new strings ? Unfortunalty no, at least not for live stuff, for the studio? Yes. My prefrence is for hi beams still. They have a fuller tone imo. and after playing these , I do really miss the zing they have. That extra little sizzle on the high end and and the fuller low end work well for me live. They give that little extra hair I like and just sound more solid to me on the bottom end. In the studio though, that extra sizzle doesn't usually come across like it does live, and a little less bottom end with more focused mids is a welcome thing. These strings didn't transfer much if any pick noise which can be a cool thing also under the microscope.

I would Definatly recomended them as they are a different animal from what's out there. I think these will be the string of choice for a lot of people. I sooo want to hear these on a fretless. I think these might be "The string" for fretless.

I'm going to leave them on and continue playing with them and see how they hold up. Due to the nature of the tone these have I think life should be pretty good to excellent. Since their not zingy like steels when amplified from the start, even when broken in they will probably sound somewhere like new nickles. Just my .02
