Man I love Mike Inez' tone! Every time I hear it I get fired up. If you've listened to the whole set they did you know the sound guys had him DIALED in that day! Even when he was playing the Wick.

Yeah, I watched that whole concert and did say to myself that his tone was great throughout the whole show.
Mike Inez, Eddie Jackson, and Rex Brown just have the tone that I really want. When I heard this clip of Rex's bass isolated, I nearly passed out:

I think I have finally found what I need to get a tone similar to that and should be picking one up tomorrow. From what I have seen and read, the Sansamp RBI can really get close so I am going to try one at a local place by me since they have it in stock.
Well I don't need huge volume, I'm often the loudest in the band and I usually only play at 1/4 gain or less. I DO need huge tone
Mostly I play with amps running at 200 watts into 1x15 cab, so I think running 4 ohms by using 2 8ohm 200watt cabinets should be good for me. I will not be using the amp that those come with (so no concern of the loud fan), just 2 of the cabinets with my Acoustic head to try out
Awesome pedal John, Even with the cleanest of heads it brings big growl. I have the Thunderfunk which is very clean but with the sansamp it gave the same growl as a Ampeg SVT2 pro(70 lbs)...I brought the SvT back within a week. Stuck with the 15.5 lb head and the sansamp.
You know what Chris? I totally forgot to order that little Great Gazoo figure you posted when I originally got the bass. I need to order that now
Excellent! That is what I want to hear Jeff. I love my Hartke LH-1000 head but it is definitely more on the clean side so I want to add the Sansamp to throw a little dirt into the mix. I tried it with some other pedals but this RBI really seems like it can get the tones I am looking for. I get paid tomorrow so it's right over to the music store once I get a free moment from work.
Anyone used the Tech21 VT Bass pedal to get ampeg grit without the Ampeg tube amp hassle and cost?

Some of my fondest memories of college were in the pit at Pantera shows at the Roseland in NYC.And I can't thank you enough for leading me to the wonder that is Meytal Cohen. I swear, I must have been living under a rock all these years...

I wish I could survive a pit... Lol. I'm around 5'7 and scrawny as heck. I was tempted to go into one when I saw opeth and mastodon the other night, but I decide against it, as there were some pretty large guys getting pretty big running starts...
I use to have the tech21 vt pedal. I used it with a GK800rb head and it gave a very tubey sound. Don't get me wrong it was a very good pedal but I prefare the Sansamp for that dirt/growl sound...but the Tech21 would be my next choice if I couldn't use the sansamp.

The only two pits I was actually a bit scared in were for a Slayer show at L'Amour in Brooklyn NY and the Pantera show at Ozzfest at Giants Stadium. Basically, when Pantera came on, everyone rushed to get onto the field who weren't already there and there was nothing security could do.....until the NJ State Troopers all came on with shotguns and started chasing people out
That still is one of the craziest memories I have of any show and I don't think it will ever be topped for me. Wow, that was back in 1997 and they were supporting the Great Southern Trendkill.

i love inez' tone, but i love mike starr's tone more!
hell yeah jeff. thats why i really like my m80. dont have to lug around monster gear.

See, I have the M80 now but to me it has too much "fuzz.". I am most likely going to sell it if I like this Sansamp RBI.
