*FOR THOSE WHO USE/LIKE/HATE A MICRO BASS AMP*
Which micro bass amp heads do you use/like/hate and why? I am about to switch some things up in my rig and want some input. I used to have a GK MB Fusion 500 and loved it, but looking for something a little different. ....I hear good things about Genz-Benz...

It largely depends on the style of music you play, and the sound you desire. I played through the MarkBass Little Mark III, the GB Shuttlemax amps, Aguilar ToneHammer 250, and several others. I'm a Mesa/Boogie guy all the way, and I play metal, predominantly. My opinions:

1. Markbass - Ugh. Lame.
2. Genz-Benz - Flat-sounding. Personality-free bass.
3. Aguilar - See #2
4. Walkabout Scout - Burnin' little amp, great sound, but couldn't handle the low B at volume. I'm talking about the Scout Combo; with more cab, it would be great.

I ended up with a heavy-ass M6 Carbine 2x12" combo, but it sounds like hell coming to visit! I wanted to love that Genz amp so badly, but I just couldn't get the sound I wanted out of it. None of #1 - 3 reproduced that growl from my Spector in a way that I liked.
If you play jazz, blues, or other more mellow styles, I think the GB or Aggie would be great amps. I'm not a MB fan, but a lot of folks are, which shows that it's ALL about personal opinion and what YOU like, not the masses.
Load your bass(es) into the car, and hit the music stores! Play through them all; you'll know what you like. :D

I have a Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 and I really like it. Lots of tones in there. It does the dirt thing pretty well though I like a clean tone for the most part. With the release of the 9.2 you should be able to find a 9.0 for under $500. Not bad for a 900 watt amp.

I own an SWR Headlite, and it sounds fantastic. My only gripe would be that it could use just a bit more wattage. Other than that, the amp is small, records well, fits in a bass case accessory pocket, and seems to be well engineered & built.

These days, it only gets used as a home & back-up amp. My main rig is a Phil Jones M-500 head, driving a Phil Jones 8 x 5" cab & a Phil Jones 16 x 5" cab. Heavy as all hell, but worth it for that monsterous tone...

One thing I can say for SURE, is that the Spector I just picked up is freakin killer with my Mesa rig.
The Aguilar JJ's and Aguilar pre smoke.
I can piss off people like 1/2 mile down the road. Gotta love it :D
Playing through a mint Mesa MPulse600 and two new Mesa PH410 cabs.
Massive sound!

From the many threads I have read on here, I have learned that 800 won't give you more volume/presence than 500 through the same cab.
Use your $$$ to get another cab; that'll solve the power problem.
Make it identical to the cab you have, as people lose their minds on TB when you pair up unlike cabs (speaker sizes)...

Yea they sure do.
I was about to roll my entire GK rig for a new Mesa rig.
I wanted to grab a PH410 and then a PH115.
Nearly everyone is against pairing odd cabs.
I thought and thought...asked a ton of people many questions...then decided to pick up a 2nd identical PH410 to make the stack. ( wish I would have saved a ton of $$$ and just initially bought the Mesa PH810)
With just 600 watts running through it, this is REALLY REEEEALLY LOUD.
in a good way.

I like the idea of side dots on the lines like JPS has 'em. Inlays or no inlays? I heart my Forte with no inlays but the canvas on this new undertaking is pretty much blank. (This will be a completely new fretboard since I want to do something totally different without the Euro inlays.)

I would personnally prefer a clean ebony fretboard...nice clean looks sexy!

Yes sir...that's why I went with one SVT 810 instead of two PR-410HLF's. Plus a lot easier to move! Lol and that awesome sealed 810 sound that really allows the Spector growl and tone burst out!!! :bassist:

Yeah I had a Hartke 810XL cab for a few years...
Then got sick of the 810 thing.
Went with mixed cabs.,....410 and a 115 stacked GK.
Then got sick of the sound of that.
Annnnnnnnd now ended up with the pair of PH410's.

All in all other than the extra money blown. I am really pleased with the cabs and how they sound with the MPulse600.
