If I only played in front at church I would take $20k basses every time...but places I have played God wouldn't be 1000 feet next to these places...one place even called Club Hell, haha. Not exactly friendly Christian people with ties on. Drunks that have more than one time bumped up against a guitar stand when the band is in-between sets. Not a pretty sight watching a $5k bass tip over from a hercules stand...but a $500 ns2a not so bad.

ya i've had my stuff banged around, knocked over and spit on. ya its hard to watch an expensive piece of gear fall over... I just only buy stuff I'll play in any situation.

LOL Jeff I use to gig a 1973 Gibson Les Paul... EVERYWHERE... that guitar is worth stupid money these days. Besides how many artists out there simply get their guitars/basses repaired? almost all of them. Now that being said I like gear with tour wear on them, I would never want my gear to look new all the time, but I understand I'm in the minority there.

Yeah how much money does Eddie have in his bank account same as you and me???....seriously....I play football with my friends like 2-4 times a month and after the game why don't I get a $100 massage and drive away on a Bentley?...Tom Brady does so I should too right?...Lets not compare us and Eddie Van Halen.

when he started he didn't have any money... just a normal guy, probably worse off that you or I even... he built his guitar.

so we agree to disagree.. everyone's different except that we all play Spectors! the best basses in the word.

Wow, great comparison. The Haz seems to have a bit more midrange growl than the Tonepump in those clips. Is that the 9v Tonepump or the 18v?

it's funny. the haz/forte and the tonepump bass sound more similar than the two hazlab basses. the tone on the NS2 sounds like the p pickup is favored a little more to me. very cool comparison! thanks!

That's true.

Both pickups are on full for all the clips.

I am assuming the big difference in the NS-2 tone is combo of the older wood and electronics plus the NS-2 is the only gloss finish of the 3.

Nice Great vids and I agree, nice to see some close ups of the the bassist. Leave it to a bassist to record the video and that is what you get.

It's a beautifully gorgeous bass that plays and sounds just great, but for whatever reason, it's just not calling my name, and I'm finding myself more into my NS-2A than this one. I'm asking the same as what I paid, which I feel is a bargain - $950 shipped. Add $50 and I'll throw in a Hipshot D-tuner.

I put a non trim Tonepump I had leftover into an old '80's custom ESP PJ Fender clone. It rocks! I may switch it out for a trimpot Tonepump because it's crazy hot...

A white NS-2A would be sweet, but yeah, this things all black and blue! It's too bad they didn't do the burst on the back, but what's cool is you can still totally see the texture of the super-flamed wings, as well as the 3 neck plys in the black finish.

One of the best luthiers on the east coast. Phil Jacoby of Philtone guitars in beautiful Baltimore, MD. Reshaping the neck on my Spector NS2-JA-R. Getting rid of the "clubby" feel my small hands don't dig. A few of the frets were a little loose. They needed to be reseated.

The disassembled natural gloss body. I am guessing the "USA" in the neck pocket means that it was for export to America.

The back of the maple body. The plan is to spray the back and the neck solid. The front figured maple will get a trans finish in the same color. Gretsch Cadillac green. Going from one of 83 to one of a kind and destroying the resale value. Oops. No matter. These dont have a great resale anyways. Though in 10 years, who knows? Tonepump with trim. Volume, volume, bass, treble. I am in the minority that loves his Tonepump. Though I did think long and hard about the HAZ just for the sake of being true to the 1983 version. Although I understand in 1983 you could get EMG electronics or the HAZ. Is this correct?
