Im really late on this but I bought the below NSCRFM a couple of months ago. Ive been trying to dig through these threads and see alot about the tonepump verses the haz, but what about the tone pump vs the BTS circuit? At least on mine (and the 5 string I had before) the BTS seemes a little dark at times. And not that it matters to most since its covered up but both of mine was just a tangled mess of wires in the cavity, (im an electronics tech and it drives me crazy!) And seem to want to break over time. Im thinking about trading my BTS for a tonepump, is it worth it?

I feel the tonepump is a huge improvement over the BT circuit. More aggressive, more low end... better tone
I just swapped out the BT in my Rex for a tonepimp

I'll mod my tonepump for 18v and take it from there. If I like it, it stays - if not, then there is a Haz in my near future...

This has my vote....

Instead of spending the 350 up front, why not pull the Haz from your NS-2A and put it in your CR4FM? That way you could hear what it sounds like and if you like it, then put it back and order the HAZ if you dig it. A bit of a pain, but way cheeper than ordering a Haz you might not dig as much. Just a thought.

I got five 9v connectors for $2.00 shipped on eBay. I like the 18v Tonepump tone better than all the others I've heard.

Good deal if its pre soldered. 5 min and an extra 9 v and your done. Cheapest easiest mod you can to with the biggest gain.

Just spent some serious time with Donnys old bass....Loving it!!!...band had the week off so next week going to see how it sounds in band setting. With the trainer it really cut through even with below level settings. Looks, Sounds,Feels Amazing!!!...thanks Donny!!

I know I've written about this before, but the EMG BTC system (vol/tone/stacked treble & bass) along with the EXB circuit (which is essentially a variable mid cut boost) sounds a lot like the Haz but with a lot more flexibility. Plus it a lot less expensive. $89 for the BTC and $49 for the EXB and that before any discounts that places like Best Bass Gear have frequently. I retro fit my Spectors with this set up (and X series pickups, but that's another discussion entirely) and it sounds clearer and crisper than the tone pump, and the EXB gives it HUGE bottom while maintaining that Spector grind the whole time. Plus it runs on either 9v or 18v and it's very, very easy to install. It's all plug and play with minimal soldering. Oh and another plus is you can select the treble frequency points by dip switches on the board in back. It's a great feature for those who think the treble on EMG pre-amps run way too hot (which they often times do).

It was suggested to me by a friend because I wanted the Haz and couldn't afford it. This sounds so close that it's hard to tell the difference, and the flexibility the EXB circuit adds is incredible. Chris got to try my late NS-2A with this set up so he could speak to the tone better than me since he's been playing Spectors longer and has broader experience and bigger ears when it comes to the usual pre-amps that are in most Spectors.

But this has become my favorite set up - much better than the Tone Pump IMO, but the Haz is still kind of my dream pre. I use it as the benchmark for everything and this EMG rig is the closest I can get to it. I think you guys would be amazed if you could get a chance to hear and feel it.
But I can't recommend this set up enough. It complements the EMGs and the Spector itself very, very well. It almost makes it sound more Spectorish, if that's possible.
