Playing my Rex and crfm back to back last night, I might try running the Rex at 18v. It sounds great but the lowend is almost too big. The crfm still has more high mid attack. But with two tweaks of the amp I can get them close.
The Rex just feels Soo great. The low profile neck really helps when slinging the bass low like I do. I'm going to wire it up 18v today and try it out.
O ya we got our drum decal installed, I think it looks cool.

Nice! :) I like it! I hope your new guitarist works out great! Are you playing thru your new Fridge at gigs now and how's it sounding?

I installed a "Blend" control, so now it's one volume and a pup blend and of course the stock tone controls.
I just replaced one volume with a blend pot, it looks exactly the same on the front as before.
Only issue was the odd sized shaft which was about 1.5 mm larger than the available shafts, I machined (by hand) a brass bushing that presses (by hand) on the replacement pot shaft for an exact fit in the bass body, no big deal.
The entire effort took about 1.5 hours, it works great and all basses should come this way.
So if you are ever inclined to replace one of the volume pots with a pan/blend snag these pictures for reference.
First picture is blend and the second with stock.
Probably should have shortened that white wire a little?

Hey dudes and dudettes,

So when I had my fall I apparently messed up the jack of my Spector pretty badly and now I need a new one. I'm just curious if any 1/4 jack from Musician's Friend will do or if I need something more specific for bass.

Just make sure it is a barrel type of jack. Spector's use those types but I am not really sure where they sell them. I will look it up and let you know.

Still struggling with SAS...
So I have a Spector REX5 neck thru holoflash that I dearly love the sound, look and feel of... BUT... the body style and tone won't do for just any old song, it excells at metal and heavy, grindy, gritty stuff - which I play a lot. I'm looking to balance out the Spector stable with a more laid back traditional look and tone for those more mellow tunes and times. I've found a few Rebops on line but none I can try out first - are they a fairly clear departure from the REX5? From a tone and control standpoint how would you compare them to the Rex?
I tried a couple of the legends and wasn't that fond of the controls or sound so I'm hoping the Rebops are different from the legends.
Of course I'd like to keep it under $1000. Any ideas?

With a budget like that, you can definitely find a used Rebop or even a Euro. Are you looking for another 5 string or did you want this one to be a 4?

I have a Rebop and a Euro and love them both so it comes down to how much you want to spend and if you prefer a bolt-on or neck-thru. They both have their differences too so you just need to weigh your options.
