Ya been using the fridge and I really really like it. My GK cabs are on the chopping block. Although I do prefer the GK heads. GK 1001rb into the fridge is my go to right now.

I've used the barrel jacks from guitar center and they work fine.

BUT... the body style and tone won't do for just any old song, it excells at metal and heavy, grindy, gritty stuff - which I play a lot. I'm looking to balance out the Spector stable with a more laid back traditional look and tone for those more mellow tunes and times. I've found a few Rebops on line but none I can try out first - are they a fairly clear departure from the REX5? From a tone and control standpoint how would you compare them to the Rex?
I tried a couple of the legends and wasn't that fond of the controls or sound so I'm hoping the Rebops are different from the legends.
Of course I'd like to keep it under $1000. Any ideas?

Rebop or euro for sure. An oil finish euro sounds like it would be perfect for you.

The one I put in my NS20004 has a blend pot but it is a WEIRD haz-copy, as the knob order is rather unusual. :confused:
Looking at the bass sitting upright on a stand, the knobs form a diamond shape, the bottom knob is treble, the right side knob is bass, the top knob is blend and the left knob is master volume.

As far as I know, typically the right side knob is treble and the bottom is bass, the top knob is neck pickup volume, and left knob is bridge pickup volume, like on my Euro.

Ok so it must mean my current haz-copy with a blend installed is super freaking weird. I wish there was a way to find out more about it.

I have a Rebop and a Euro and love them both so it comes down to how much you want to spend and if you prefer a bolt-on or neck-thru. They both have their differences too so you just need to weigh your options.

My preference would be a neck thru 5 string so I guess that's the euro but I'd settle for a bolt on 4 rebop if the price was drastically different. I also agree with worshiprocker that the satin or oil finish looks fantastic. Bass Central seems to have fairly decent prices on their new and used Spectors. Any other leads on a nice clean used Rebop or Euro 4 or 5 feel free to ping me.

Not sure if they make them both ways, but the Haz in my Kramer NS2 had a blend already.
Its just if you have one configuration you can't switch on a printed circuit board as it's routed for THAT signal path.

So I can't use the circuit board for that, here is a crazy idea but maybe it could work:

Couldn't I unsolder the volume pots, install a volume and blend immediately from the two pickups, then solder the output of that master volume and blend signal to the two pickup inputs on the board, and bridging the spots where the volume knobs would be?

So the connection flows straight from the pickups, through my blend and volume, into the board but with no interruption where the volume knobs would be, into the preamp section of the circuit board and then onwards to the jack? I know it sound crazy (and I'd need pots to fit where the volume knobs are that I can solder to without touching the circuit board) but it could conceivably work right?

Well yeah, there are ways around the wiring, but then how are you going to mount it as the Treble and Bass are still hard mounted to the board and, installed, the board/pre itself will be physically blocking the holes for your volume and blend controls?

Well I would need to unsolder and take the nuts off to remove the existing volume knobs from the board (and solder a wire across the input-output joints for each pot so there is continuity through where the pot used to be), get long-shaft pots for the master volume and blend so they pass through the circuit board and attatch them via the nuts from the old pots tp ground them to the board, but the actual pots themselves (the functional part not the shaft) will be 'higher' than the board (from the perspective of looking in with the control cavity cover off) to solder the pickups to and run wires to the board.


Also in regards to my insane quest for a blend:
Having a blend pot is extremely important to how I shape my tone at shows, I don't just use the same tone for every song, and I find panning between the pickups is a much more pleasing tone change than using the EQ, the EQ is set and stays, master volume and blend are what I use to tweak my sound.

My Euro4LX was taken back from the Woodstock shop where it had 2 frets slightly filed down
and was taken back to PJ's where Patrick took this photo.
It was delivered back to me yesterday. :bassist:
Now being "almost famous" :hyper:
