SPECTOR® Club - Part 37

I think what people are referring to when talking about "thickness" is the difference between the C and D neck profiles as opposed to the thickness or depth of the neck? The necks with less of a curve will have more mass then others that have more of a curve while having the same LxWxD measurements.

Guess thick is a bad way to describe it but chunky has a worse rep haha

+1! :bassist:

I totally agree. I think it's more the shape and not necessarily the actually front-to-back thickness. A "C" shape will have more mass than a "D" shape and therefore feel larger.

A couple of the NS-2s at both this past NAMM and BPL shows had almost squared necks towards the headstock. Those necks felt much larger but in reality they were not thicker. There was just more mass as you put it and therefore more to grip.

And again for some bassists this is a plus. For others not so much. I think the most comfortable neck I have on any of my NS Neck-Thru models is my NS-4. And it is just slightly thicker than my NS-2A. And slightly less thick than the Euro4LX models I've owned in the past.

In all, I've found all of them very comfortable and playable. And I really haven't needed any adjustment between them.

The test will be the bass that Stuart started building for me as I left from my visit at the NY Workshop. It's going to be a USA Doug Wimbish. So I'm expecting that neck to be really small in comparison.

Totally JPS! And it'll depend on each individual player's hand size as well.

Man, I can't wait to see that bass JPS! It sounds awesome! :hyper:

Loooooooooooollllllllll.... Don't do drugs kids!

Whenever I think of Flea playing a Spector I think of this video

...i THINK it is an NS-2J... but its hard to see in the video especially with all the stickers.

Yes, I believe that is an NS-2J he is using when they are in the car. In the beginning of the video, I can see a Stingray headstock but then he definitely uses the Spector later in the video.

So the guy who bought the MTD off me and said the bank transfer was in process just backed out on me. I know I could leave negative feedback since we closed the sale, but I don't want to be a dick about it. I am going to have to relist and start over though. I was really counting on it being gone. Pretty frustrated right now.

Oh man Steve! So sorry that happened! But you're a great guy that's always going out of his way to treat people 100% awesome! :hyper:
I believe the way that you treat people will come back at ya and the right person will come around and buy it from you soon!:) Peace brother!

It turns out he'll be able to do it. I offered to come down a bit to accommodate him. Now it's just a matter of him reinitializing a transfer/PayPal transaction which will hopefully happen in a few days. So keep your fingers crossed for me folks. He's got a great feedback profile and I talked to him as well so I know he's genuinely trying to come through. He seems like a great guy and this is a dream bass for him and it would be great to compromise and make that happen for him, so I'm compromising. Plus, I really, really need the funds? I'm just gonna be patient and hope that it all works out in a few days. If not, the worst will be relisting and waiting again.

Sorry for the off-topic venting everyone. Back to business :)!

Thanks Michael. I appreciate it! And it looks like you're right and it may end up coming through anyway, just a bit lower than I'd hoped for. But a great guy will get a great bass and I feel good about that.

Wicked Shots Donny!

Can anyone tell me the difference between the normal EMGs and the EMG X PUs. I'm Just wondering if they are worth the upgrade.

ya they put on a great show... this was the first show to kick off their tour.

So I tweak it a little depending on what bass I'm using for the night.... but with my Fridge and Rex on the GK 1001rbii

contour - to taste per room but normally around noon
presence - 100%
high - 10
high mid - noon
low mid - 2
low - 10
boost - 100%
vol - 10-11
woofer - to taste per room

.

Thanks Donny I like your gig pics as well, very commanding presence.Boost at 100%! Wow that's gotta give some ooomph to the sound. I'll have to give that a try. Any other GK/Spector users.? I know Sam picked up a MB200 a while ago.

Completely different preamp with a broader frequency range and more headroom. I spoke with their tech support before installing them and they run so broad and high that you aren't supposed to use more than 9v with them. They still have the hi fi sound of EMGs but a little less compression and more openness. Almost like passive pickups, you can hear more of the wood. They run hot but sound fantastic. A set of pjx's in a Spector really opens up the tone and almost makes it sound more "Spectorish."

Yeah I dabble in the GK realm with the Spector's. My current micro's are the MB800 and MB200 but I have an 800RB (one of the greater rock amps ever) and a 200RCB. I've also owned and sold a few more (Fusion, 2001, etc)

GK and Spector's go together like peanut butter and ladies (what movie reference?).

Well that sucks
