I wanted to share a cool thing that happened today. I auditioned for an original band called "The Shallows" this afternoon. They do some folky type rock and roll if that makes sense. Anywho's I received all their songs and the bass player was definitely playing a P bass (easy to tell). I've been talking to the guitar player and asked him what kind of sound they'd like on the bass. He told me "you know, like a P bass through an SVT". Of course I could have supplied that but I said you know what, I'm taking the Spector's and GK....f it.
It was a tough decision, I didn't want to take 5 basses, so I decided on Big Earl (NS 2) and the newly acquired NS 2J from Jaymi. When I took them out of the gig bag I got the normal oohs and ahhhs. We got through the first song and the guitar player actually said "I didn't know bass could sound like that!" I mean, to say these guys were blown away with the tone would be an understatement.
I switched back and forth between both basses and each had their "area of expertise". The NS 2 does what it does....that low mid growl that just fills the mix. The 2J has that more open and nasally growl and is a tad bit more articulate. Not quite as "big" as the NS 2 but plenty for the type of music these cats are playing.
So anyway, moral of the story, is "f*ck 'em, feed 'em fish". They wanted the P, they got the Spector's and couldn't have been happier. Damn, I love these things.

Working on it brother. The one I have now sounds the same to me. Unplugged. It has the same solid vibrations as yours. It has an Aguilar OBP-2. Which sounds mean and growley, but the high end can get a little harsh. Needs some Tonepump love, or the USA 9V. It might be coming up in the classifieds. Will know tomorrow.
