Chris just found out that his sister Chantale is a match for his Bone Marrow transplant.

Not surprising since she was the one who presented the "Healing Spector" to him.

It would only make sense she would be the one to Heal him.

So..... I sent an email to MrBassie's finish guy Chris Bavaria today to get a quote on a new finish for my forte 5. I gots to admit that the matte black is really groing on me. But how cool would a gloss stain look with that no inlay neck? Anybody want to help pick a color? I'm currently infatuated with a gloss walnut brown stain over quilt maple NS2 that used to be on the spector site, but I can't find it today.

I think you may be talking about my friend Alan Robert's NS-4. I fell in love with his, and it looked absolutely amazing in person. It had an ebony fretboard and black hardware. I almost bought it, but he decided to keep it. My next new Spector will be a walnut gloss finish.

Ah, the oldern days. I saw those guys with Type O Negative at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park way back in the early 90's I think it was. River Runs Red is such an amazing CD.

Yo Joe! I'm so happy for you dude. I've said it before and I'll say it again....Forte's are just the sh*t. They are the no frills hot rods of the 60's with no A/C or cupholders. Just pure muscle. Everything you need, nothing you don't. Can't wait to hear your A/B with the USA circuit. Get ready to giggle uncontrollably. Did I mention I almost fell down with the first E?

What can I say about Sam, that hasn't been said already. To know him is to love him If you're new to these parts I am refering to Limaguy. Simply an amazing guy who will go to extremes to help you. I had Spoken to Sam about the Spector Forte 4. We had a great discussion about them. Sam thought I should have another informed opinion and referred me to Lee(Husky123). Lee and Sam were very generous with their knowledge of these basses, and, after speaking to them, I decided to buy one. I had recently received my Spector endorsement and sold a few basses that did not have Spector on the headstock. I had actually already ordered a Forte 4 when Sam sent me a link to a, too good to be true, Forte at a Guitar Center in Tallahassee, FL. $1299! That was on a Saturday night. That Sunday, one minute after the store opened, I was on the phone and bought the Forte. I cancelled my order for the other Forte. Apologies to Spector, but the price was just unreal. I simply could not pass on it. At this point the wait begins and my imagination goes into overdrive. There has got to be something wrong this thing. They(Guitar Center) cant possibly think this is a Euro. It says Woodstock NY right on the back! That part of this will remain a mystery. The bass arrives today. It, in my opinion, has never been played. There is not a mark on it. It still smells new. 1st surprise. The neck is completely comfortable. The profile is such that it fits my smallish hands perfectly. It is a bit flat right at the back where your thumb naturally sits. Even when you choke the neck and your thumb wraps around it. It still feels fantastic. 2nd surprise. I love the finish. Before receiving the bass I had already assumed that I was going to have the 1st Forte with a refin I might, one day, get it clear glossed. Though my wife thinks those would be the actions of a lunatic. She loves matte finishes. The bass must sound great unplugged. This one does and then some. Solid. These basses come with the Aguilar OBP-2. A fantastic sounding preamp that I am not a fan of. Though I have to say that in a Forte they sound really good. Waiting in the wings is a US 9V circuit. I will install and get back with a before and after review. My Spector story has been a long time in the making. I have heard so many of us say that GAS is finally a thing of the past. I feel that this is the case with me, but I also know what SAS can be! I play very simple music. Punk, Reggae and Garage rock. I can play that on a P or a J bass. It just sounds so much better on a Spector!

Yup, then he had an account named "spector_boogie" but the last time he posted with that account was on 7/4/2012. I hope everything is cool with him since he is a good guy.

Actually the only new bass Marty has gotten in the past few years is his Forte-5. He got number 002 I believe. He walked into BPL in 2009 and saw it and said, I buy it right now! He was about to go out on the first tour with "We are the Fallen".

To my knowledge the two other Spectors Marty has in the photo are both from the Methods days. He's not one to buy/sell/change equipment much.

So I think BOTH of these are Euro5s and not LX models.

To my best knowledge, that is real sheet metal. Very thin. The finish on that bass was pretty worn because he toured with it so much. So he wanted to "metal" it up. LOL.

I'll ask him to be sure. But I remember him telling Rex Brown about it at NAMM I think. The two of them do catching up there.

BTW: I know he switched out hardware to black on his basses a couple of years ago. So probably the bass in the video with gold bridge and hardware is in the photo with him... it just has black hardware now. But again, I'm about to ask him to be sure.

I remember seeing pics from when he was getting the sheet metal put on! I wondering if I can find them... I think he may have some on his FB?


Marty was the first guy I ran in to my first NAMM.. Met him briefly at BPL.. Very cool guy. He took over to the clear tone strings booth then saw tommy lee walking by and called him over... Very surreal first 30min of my first NAMM lol

Installed new RotoSound 77 Jazz Bass Flats this afternoon...2 words...LOVE THEM!!!! They have a bite but yet smooth as silk! I'm able to dial in a lot of various tones. I can say that I've not play any strings like these before. Kind of a cross between nickel rounds and flats. After all they're made with 65% nickel.

I'm not sure why, but I felt nostalgic. I went and revisited my first post to the Spector Club threads, way back in part "2".

Yes it was 2009.
Lost was still on TV.
I didn't have gray hair.
Michael Jackson was still alive.
A Coca-Cola only cost a nickel.
Doug Wimbish still had a hi-top fade.

With all that said...

Glad you bought it Joe, that way I could buy your bass and not the forte. I'm curious how you think it compares to gloss finish tonally. I love the look of the matte finish but I need that "zing" that comes with the high gloss.


have all of the Forte owners put the 9v in there? It does seem like the logical thing to do

I would say I can't wait......but I can wait a week! I get one vacation a year and this is it! Nags head here I come.....might just have to take a white Spector to hang with me......maybe sit in with a band or hit an open mic.....if the wife permits. I might just get voted out on that one.....lol.

That being said.....Steve is sending me.....the one......for me, or at least we are both pretty sure. Will it end with this one? Does the buck stop here? Time will tell!

Okay, in Lincoln on our way home, a couple of things, Alex Webster on the page is so awesome, along with all the rest of you. I have honestly gone on the page everyday to lift my spirits and all of you and your wishes mean as much to me as anyone on the page.

I thought that metal bass was paint also, that's crazy cool!

My sister is a match we found out today, there was a 1 in 4 chance she could be a match (she believes in signs, right after we got the news "One in a Million" by Trixter came on the radio, how often does that come on? I was reminded that Chantale loved that song, her matching really did make her one in a million and that PJ plays a white Spector - like the one in the backseat from you guys. opened for them back in the day, PJ was really cool, he plays Spectors, how can he not be?)

Chantale was hopefully going to match on most of the markers they test so we could use it. She was a perfect match on EVERY marker, which means her marrow is identical to mine (with out the leukemia) and makes things much easier and gives us a much better chance at this thing working and curing me forever, so like Sam and I say we can be 2 old men in our rocking chairs talking about how they don't build basses like they used to and how these young kids can't play like the old guys...
