Jeff, your words were crucial for my decision to go for Kramer. So many thanks for that. You know how it's difficult sometimes to make it.
I also agree with the "zing" referring to gloss finish...but I called it "ping"....hehe
I think you guys are right about this. I need to put on my prefered strings, just to be sure. Though I must say, I am really digging the Spector strings that are on it.
And yes I know it's a "guitar" and not a bass. But it's still a Spector.

You can get the ping (zing) just fine out of the Forte. Just bring that treble knob out from the center detent. Instant grind and growl!

Are the Kramer-era Spectors all finished in solid colors or natural?
Or, are there some funky finishes too?
That "art finish" on TW Stevens' NS-2 is just amazing...

Most are solid colors or natural wood w/oil....there are a few with some cool funky finishes also

Got the SVP-Pro from Lee yesterday (thanks!). Pretty cool sound for sure. Not sure if I like it more than my RBI yet but I'll give it a little time.
I don't have a lot of experience with a tube preamp, and I originally plugged the 1/4" preamp out into my Mackie input with an unbalanced cable and it seemed like it was pretty noisy, more than just the low level hiss I would expect. I then switched to a balanced cable and it seemed a lot better. Has that been anybody else's experience with this unit?
Also, I used the XLR as well which was very quiet but it's not affected by the Master volume so I'm not sure it makes sense to tap that for recording.
