I don't have a lot of experience with a tube preamp, and I originally plugged the 1/4" preamp out into my Mackie input with an unbalanced cable and it seemed like it was pretty noisy, more than just the low level hiss I would expect. I then switched to a balanced cable and it seemed a lot better. Has that been anybody else's experience with this unit?

Also, I used the XLR as well which was very quiet but it's not affected by the Master volume so I'm not sure it makes sense to tap that for recording.

Hey Bunk,

Glad she arrived. Like I mentioned, I had that very low level hiss that I have come to get used to with powerful amps. It never really bothered me but I was going to gig with it and not record. I know a lot of guys roll tubes to quiet it down. That can be a bit of a pain though if it's not your thing.

I went straight out of the "pre out" into the effects return of a few of my amps. The hiss was loudest through my GK's for some reason but still not enough to bother me. It was virtually quiet through the Carvin effects loop.

NS 2000-5
Fretless Spector, I have been looking for one for a long time and it should be here next week.
Only down side is it's a lined fretless and that makes it a little confusing for me plus it must be a conversion because I don't remember seeing one of these as a fretless and certainly not an epoxy coated board. (Round wound heaven)
I'm excited about this one because I'm a fretless freak.

I took my Schecter Diamond P5 to rehearsal this week to see how a 5 went over with the material. The sound however was a different story it just didn't fit. Everyone said that the red bass sounded so much better.

The red bass being Brandi, my NS-2A.

I can't say that I disagree. :bassist:

Wow! That is beautiful!!! Congratulations! There's just something differently beautiful about one of these older basses that are in awesome condition! Reminds me of my former NS-95.

Even non-bass players know that Spectors sound better! Lol
Might as well sell the schector for a nice Spector 5r! :D :cool:

That finish is gorgeous!
You could always have the "fret" board replaced with a piece of solid ebony. The labor would probably double the price of the bass, tho!

This thread is brutal...I am so happy with my NS4CR and my Alex Webster, but reading all these great stories about Spector acquisition gives me an itchy spending finger!
The only thing I would buy at this point is a USA, and only if it is WAY unique. Maybe if Kip Winger put his Kramer NS-2 up for sale (he probably needs the $$$ by now)...he didn't play it much anyway!!! :D
If I win the lottery, I'm gonna have a repro made of that TW Stevens NS-2. Ah, dreams...

Whenever you post pics of your new black beastie, I may just have to post a pic or two of a certain blue NS-4, just to keep the playing field level.

EVIL!!! EVIL MAN!!!!

It's at the shop now. It's got the major flame you'd expect, but it's also got a much darker stain than usual applied to it than I've seen on other Forte's. Way more black than charcoal. So I'm not sure whether it will bowl you over or not. I can say that it shipped with the new intonation screw bridge, which makes me a happy, happy camper. I should have it back with the US 9v in it and the white '07 LX with the EMG BQC both on Monday or Tuesday. I'll post pics of the family at that point. And since I'll be hitting you with the one-two punch of a Forte AND a white Spector, yes, I think posting the Blue Goddess is fine. And yes, that's what I call her because I've that in love with it and yes, when I get my own I'm gonna call her the same name.
