Not Spector, EMG.
EMG, on their site, says to set the active pickups as close to the strings as possible without physically interfering with string movement as the active pickups won't magnetically dampen string movement like most passives will.

I ordered my fretless right after you ordered the Coda 5...I'm not sure I can wait until the end of Oct. to own a Spector again!

I know how you feel brother! If I had the funds I'd be buying one of the NS-2 Kramers that are flying around in & out of people's doors. Lol
