How much longer until that baby's in your hands Ice? I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it (and some clips if you'd be so inclined).

Oh, and have I mentioned that I'm jealous? Because I am. Soooo much SAS right now...

I think I've got to lower the pups on the forte. the output is super hot with the smadder set up. I have the pre on my interface set all the way to the bottom and it's still peaking at -3db in protools with a light touch. I'd barely be lighting up the meter with my j bass. :0

Do you happen to have a link to where on the Spector site it says that? I've been over a lot of the tech tips and I did not see that.

I appoligize for possible misquote on this...:rolleyes: I really thought I read it there backs couple years ago. :hmm: I just went over all the setups on the owner support page and didn't see it. It might have been somebody on our club that mentioned that as a starting point??? Both of my Fortes 4&5 have come setup from Woodstock with the very low action I currently use. I'm mostly use a soft finger playing style. Have to keep the finger nails clipped low though. When I do on occasion get to aggressive there'll be a slight fret buzz to warn me to back off a bit.

Well according to the date on my purchase invoice from BC dated 4/27/2012, it'll be delivered on or about 10/27/2012. A bit to go yet!

Not Spector, EMG.
EMG, on their site, says to set the active pickups as close to the strings as possible without physically interfering with string movement as the active pickups won't magnetically dampen string movement like most passives will.

You had it right.

No problem. I'm a very hard picking player so I don't think pickups that close would work for me at all.

That's probably why I don't play fingerstyle more, because I tend to pluck fairly hard when I do it to be at the same output level as when I use the pick. Perhaps I should set up one of my Spector with higher pickups and learn how to finger pick more softly.

Actually, no smadder dude. It's a Euro LX 5 w/ 40DCs and the EMG BQC (the Alex Webster setup). I did have the smadder in the Forte I just traded with j. kernodle for his 2007 white LX4 w/ US 9v pre in it & some cash. I'm taking it to my tech today to get it all cleaned, set up, fix a sticky tuner, etc. When the White Wimbish gets here I'm going to try them both and which ever one I like better stays and will keep the USA 9v. the other will get either the tone pump or the BQC and get sold along with my JAR, the incoming Euro LX5 (an Amazon bass), and possibly two more. I have the BQC in both Euro LXs (a 4 and a 5) both with black satin matte finishes. Wonderful basses. But I'm gonna put my white JAR up today. I'll post it in the club first.

In the end, I still want to get a USA bass of some kind - either a Forte 4 w/ the US 9v circuit or an NS-4. But we'll see how the bills and the money work out.

very cool, I've liked what I've heard with the BQC and you confirmed it with your tracks. you have moved so many Spectors, you deserve a US model

I pay 4 bangers, but I have settled on the Dunlop Steels for my drop tuned basses. I also really liked the Dadario Pro Steels

I use those or the Slinkies and they fit...there are a couple of tricks to make them fit though!!!

ya I set my action a little higher since I play hard with a pick and finger too
