figure this would be a good place to ask this question:

on a Euro 5LX, what is the pickup height from the strings supposed to be? Trying to find the sweet spot on these pickups and not sure if it's close. This is my first go 'round with EMGs so I'm not terribly sure where to put these things.

EMG recommends as close as you can get. It all depends on how hard you play and how hot you are running the tonepump.... Someone will have a measurement for you... I'm not that technical.

Just under a 1/2" on the three of mine.
Your ears will determine your "sweet spot", but a 1/2" is a good starting point. Find it & you will know it. My NS-4 has incredible dynamic range - it can go from a whisper to full-on armageddon with only a slight variation of your plucking speed & power.

1100! Nice. And it's cool to hear people in the club confirming the good things I've heard about carvin amps.... I'm kind of tempted, although I told myself I'd save for a B3K first. Dang, you guys are bad influences when it comes to buying gear!

I'll add to that:

I went through a huge pre-amp/power amp rack phase several years ago and went through a Demeter VTBP and H series, a SansAmp RBI, an Aggie (I forget the number... the single rack space one), and a Fender. the only thing that didn't change was the Carvin DCM1000 power amp. It was awesome. Totally transparent, REALLY powerful (easily under rated on output), flexible (every connector known to man), quiet, light weight, and only $350ish before shipping at the time. The ones I'd get again without hesitation would be the RBI or the Aggie as long as I had a Carvin power amp underneath it.

Hey Spector folks.

Just wanted to say thank you for all of the kind words and praise.As Patrick and Sam and Chuckles well know, I'm extraordinarily uncomfortable with compliments. Call it a self-esteem thing, whatever, but I like doing good things for people and not needing to be thanked for them. But as my friends have pointed out, it is just as important to accept gratitude and praise as it is to give it, so I'm trying. I promise. You'd think at 39 soon to be 40 I'd have worked that out by now, but I haven't.

So thanks everyone. I really do appreciate it and I'm grateful that everyone thought it was a good idea and came together to make it happen. We're a much stronger community for it, and that takes the efforts of many, not just one or a few. I'm really proud to be associated with such a talented and open-hearted group of fellow low-enders. I love my Spectors so much, but I also love the community that came along with them.

So here's to the Spector Club and Chris Loe in particular and his first Monday of many with his new white Ian Hill. I couldn't ask for better company than this.

Would someone please call me and tell me how to get the Soundcloud tracks to show up in my posts? I want to share my songs with you guys here and on the FB Spector Bass page, but I cannot figure it out. This is the IT guy hanging his head in utter shame :scowl::scowl::scowl:

they're good songs - some of the best stuff I've ever done and felt 98% good about. when you write something and play something that YOU like, it's rare. At least for me it is. Going back over these with a Spector was fun and I like the tone better than what I originally used and I didn't think that I would necessarily feel that way.

So someone please help a brother out?

And Chantale (Chris' sister) is working with Patrick, who is remastering both of them so that the audio and visual quality is much, much better so look forward to the new versions of these if they aren't already posted. Patrick's multimedia kung-fu is strong.

People are still contacting me to donate to Chris' family so please just follow the original diorections as nothing has changed: go to PayPal, click on "send money" at teh top, click on teh second tab in the middle of the screen, choose "gift", send what you want to send to [email protected].

I will reply immediately upon seeing the notification to whatever email address you use for PayPal and let you know it came through. I will send the money to Chris every time we hit $100 and I'll change that amount threshold as needed based on the donation traffic. I will also continue to add names to the donor list as they come in and will periodically post it here and the other usual places.

If Chris tells you to stop, tell him to shut the f%ck up or we'll come and forcibly install a 1987 B.C. Rich on-board distortion circuit with the switch conveniently "hand drilled" into the top horn.

I'm sorry if it caused you any frustration, it certainly wasn't my intention.

Anytime you've got an issue like this, please feel free to PM me. I don't necessarily think we should be bringing it to the main thread just because I'm trying to maintain anonymity for everyone in regards to the donations. I'd rather the discussions be over PMs if that's okay, just out of respect for everyone else who donated or chose not to donate and particularly Chris.

But if I did anything to frustrate you, I hope you'll accept my apology for it. I assure you I sent a response as soon as I saw the notification on Sunday and that's the most I was able to do at the time as I did not get a "failed delivery" response or anything else to inform me that you had not received it.
