Alright! My NS-2 is here.

So here is the story:
Sam and I were talking (and talking, and talking and talking....) and I told him about selling my NS-4 and how excited I was to get my NS-2 ordered last spring. I then was kind of joking around about having a little "extra" money from selling the NS-4 and things getting pushed back with my transplant and buying his Kramer NS-2. We talked and I told him if I could choose for another NS-2 I would like a Kramer, cherry burst, but it would have to be in good shape....

The next day, PJ contacted Sam with a guy from Seattle who had a NS-2 that had sat in his closet for years and years. The guy is a great guy, but friends with Mike Lull and has 16 Lull basses and the Spector has just been sitting....

So, here is my new NS-2. (I have now officially played a NS-2 and )
Exact color Sam and I talked about, Cherry Burst, Kramer, serial number 2687, born 8/8/1990.

I got it late last night, freaked out a bit because I plugged it in and got nothing out of it, opened it up and the battery came loose during shipping. Plugged the battery in and it just roars. Has just an incredible tone (it has the original USA 9 Volt "Haz" pre), plays incredible, and looks just sick. I can't believe it has been taken care of so well.....

Yeah, I was explaining how I do it to bassgiant that asked the question.

I believe you're the only one that I've seen on here that uses Elixers. I've been trying out the RS Jazz Bass Flats for the past month, as they are 65% nickel, I love that they still have that bark of the nickels but are smooth. The only thing that I don't like is that they don't have as much sustain as Stainless Steel Flats like from GHS. I'd like to try some Dogals when I get some extra $$$...for now I may go back to GHS Precision SS Flats. I love how they sound, feel like silk, keep in tune and their sustain! I've always said that they're the next best thing to sex. LOL Sorry! But they're that GOOD! When I try another brand, then go back to GHS, I get this audible Oh YEAH baby, welcome back! I've asked my wife to not let me try anything else but she hasn't and won't stop me. Haha!

Nope. I've been using them for years. They just came out with a set of steels but the steels aren't tapered so they won't fit in my Euro5 bridge. I could crimp them but i really don't want to. So I'll stick with the nickle plated steels.

You know what dude? You have a point there and thanks for making me feel much better Sometimes I get totally bummed when I don't have cash to lay out for something that is possibly going to be sold but maybe I should sit back and enjoy the ones I have.

Bolded the part I need to learn for myself.

I've felt that "chase" all year and had been thinking about throwing down right now to order a couple new US Spectors. But the more I play my Webster and NS-5XL the more I realize those two are more than enough for me right now, and I still have my other three Euros for variety.

At this point unless I see a Forte or NS-5XL show up with a 9v Haz in it, I'm done buying stuff for a while. I still owe some money on other gear I've so I'm going to pay that down before I put any deposits in.

I *might* list my Euro 6LX-EX at some point to subsidize a deposit on an NS-6XL but I need to think hard about that one because it's my main fretted 6-string right now, and my fall back is a 17 year old Carvin LB76 which is nice but not the same.

Also, do you guys use stock string sets or do you look for "balanced" feeling sets?

I just buy the xtra heavy dunlop steel set...

On the note of enjoying what you have.... I am very happy with my 2 basses. i don't even have SAS right now. I would always add another Spector if I could afford it, but no need to in reality

I don't know who buys and selects Spectors wood choices or who does their finishes or who designs their body and headstock shapes or who specs their electronics or who makes and installs their hardware or who manages their sales and on-going product support but damn, just damn... these guys are hitting on all 8 cylinders! Everything they could do to a bass they've done, and they've done it perfectly. That bass is worthy of a gold leaf frame, it's a freakin work of art!
The kicker is, I'm sure it sounds to good to just hang on a wall and admire, gig it baby!
PS - call me if you ever feel like parting from that beast, I'm sure I've got a kidney or something I could sell to take it off your hands.

Actually this is my first use of the Elixers nanos. I had a set of Cobalts on and hated them. Everybody raved about the Cobalts so I tried them (and really tried to like them) on my new Euro 4LX. The finger and fret noise was way to pronounced on the top end and kinda muddy in the bottom with way too much mid focus for me. I just assumed it was the non-trim tone pump and was set to purchase a hazlab upgrade when a buddy threw an extra set of elixers my way (he converted to 5 string basses and had a 4 string set of Elixers left over). I put them on and adjusted my pup height and OMG. I don't think I need a hazlab or even a trimpot tonepump, it just sounds perfect now. These are rounds but they're quiet and relatively smooth and exceptionally fast rounds. Not too expensive and worth a try if you want too speed up your fretwork.

As for flats, I haven't tried the GHS, but I've always been a LaBella DTF fan. If you've tried those, I'd be interested to hear how they compare to the GHS nickels. I'll be looking for a new string set for my Rex5 and thought I'd experiment a bit. GHS Precision Flats, Low Beams and La Bella tape wounds are all on the short list (yep, nothing in common, just experimenting to see what happens).
