I just got asked if I had a return policy on sales? I am not a store and I sell few basses over a year that are just personal use instruments. Do any of you have a "return policy?" The way I think of return policy is a way I have never seen in buying used instruments from private parties........anybody wanna extrapolate?

While I share your views and do not offer a return policy, I have seen sellers on TB offer them. Especially with higher ticket items.

No return policy for sure. If you want a return policy, go buy from Guitar Center. I'm not that.

But accurate descriptions and detailed pictures are a must.

I like and prefer the Tonepump vs the BTS system etc... Just what my ears like.

1) Can ANYONE tell me what the difference is in the Tonepump vs Tonepumpjr? (I know the trim is one difference)

2) Difference in the SSD vs HZ?

I have a '10 Legend and really like it. It's VERY well made, neck and frets are perfect. Maybe I just got lucky.
I cannot afford a big purchase this year, so no Euro but I don't really think I need it.

So I wanted to know what I can do to get the Rebop tone I had with my 1st Spector, (White Rebop 5).
The ONLY real difference I can see between the two is the pickups and preamp. Quality of construction is the same and I like this neck measurements better.

I don't want to buy DC's, (I think they seem to be too hot/bright)
I can get a set of HZ's and a new Tonepump w/trim.

What's your take?

From what I gather, the tonepump junior is actually boost only, as opposed to the regular tonepump, which was thought to be boost only even by Spector until it came to light that it was boost and cut (but it was a weird kind of cut).
The SSD pickups are said to have a little more midrange to them than regular HZs. That's all that I'm aware of as far as those differences go.

I think you are heading the right direction to get the ReBop tone... Keep in mind that the Legend may sound a bit more mid present since it is maple and the rebops are alder.

SSD VS HZ: I've had both... The SSD are more mid forward. The HZs have a more balanced low end IMHO.. I had an HZ/TP (non trim) set up in a Performer DLX and I loved it.

TP vs TP Jr.: I have only used the TP not the JR. but the Jr. is a lower output version of the TP with less headroom and gain. Not many people like the TP Jr...

I actually don't mind the jr in the legend though. I love the sound I get now, but I do miss being able to cut frequencies on the bass. When I first got it I figured I'd do an electronic swap, but I haven't needed to yet. I may try some HZs and an aggie OBP 3 in my six though...

Just heard from Spector about my USA 9v. It's gonna be another 2 weeks. I'm sure they just drop in a ns2a.

It will drop right in. Just be careful of the bottom the circuit board hitting the shielding. You may need rubber washers. Send me a PM when you get it if you have any questions. There is a diagram on the Spector Facebook page now.

If someone is asking right off the top if you have a return policy I would be skeptical and would want to talk to the person via phone to see why they are asking that.

I took a return once on a bass I sold since the buyer claimed it wasn't as I represented it in the ad. (not gonna get into the details) but I did it just to keep good Karma flowing.

I have also seen people mutually agree on returns if they know each other well. Other times I have see the person not able to take a return because the money was already spent to fund the bass they were buying.

But generally for the everyday sale, you buy a bass and if you don't like it. You re-sell it.

I like to give local CL buyers 24 hours just to be nice.

But with TBers and shipping, I would only take it back of I inadvertently misrepresented the bass. Too big a pain in the ass.

If a buyer is unsure or wants a week or month to "try it out", I would tell him/her to buy something else. Sorry, TB is all about GAS... If I sell something, generally the funds are earmarked for another purchase. Hard to pay someone back if the $$$ is long gone!

I've only ever returned a bass once. The guy did offer a return, he was that confident. I'm not sure if he wasn't aware of the basses history or if he didn't want to disclose it. But he sold me a bass as the second owner. When I began looking the history up it had been owned by 6 or 7 guys. The finish took pictures very well and did look new in the add but it had a lot of cosmetic wear. After finding out that the bass had been through several owners as well as having the wear that it had and discovering the electronics would make an occasional popping noise, I returned the bass and informed the seller why. I just did not feel comfortable with the amount of money I was investing in that bass with it's history, condition, and popping noise in the electronics.

Also, it's a wise idea to hold on to the cash until they receive the bass.

Just played the most beautiful Spector I've ever seen in Dover, NH Earcraft music... about $4,500 wow what a monster!

I tried a few Spector 5s... I can't do the chunky neck, especially at the early frets... Too bad because they were awesome!

I don't get why people seem to be asking for this more often. To me, if they are asking for it, they will most likely use it which is just annoying so I would be like "nope." If they want to try something out and don't like it, they can be responsible for selling it after the fact.

It's already a stressful experience and then you factor in people that offer pretty much half of what you are asking, try and pull off stupid trades, or do things like ask for a return policy and it almost makes it not worth it to list since the seller seems like they get screwed. Yeah, it caught me off guard. I guess I would offer a return if the buyer paid shipping and a 10-15% "restocking fee"......

Its hard to be a private seller and have a return policy. The only return I could offer is if something was seriously wrong with the bass, however I try to inspect my basses to ensure there is absolutely nothing wrong with them before I even think of selling them.

BTW-just shipped the smadder ns2a off and will be plotting and planning for my next aquisition......lol

Here on Talkbass I have always offered a 7 day money back guarantee. I state 7 days minus the cost of shipping. I have sold somewhere in the vicinity of 8 basses and have only had one return. The buyer returned the bass via priority mail. When the bass came back it had new strings on it, a really poor setup and had not been wiped down. Other than that it was ok. What I learned from that is that someone else is not going to do things the way you do them. I would have sent the bass back in the exact condition in which it was received. Probably better, actually. I gave the bass a very thorough inspection. Truss rod, electronics, etc. And refunded the purchase price minus the shipping. It was a small inconvenience, as I sold the bass soon after. However, never again.

have you ever used the obp-3 with DC's before? i've thought about swapping out to the 45P's and J's but i sort of like the DC sound, and its the only bass i have with DC's so its a nice variation to me.

To me, the EMG BQC would go better with the DC's. The OBP-3 is standard on the USA bolt-ons and they are normally installed with the EMG TW pickups so I think the OBP-3 would be better for those pickups. The only exception is the Forte 5 which has DC's and the OBP-2 but with the experience I have using the DC's, I think the BQC would be a better match for them. My opinion of course

Oh boy, I remember when Sam went through this. I felt really bad for him because he was super nice to the guy and it seemed like the guy just wanted to screw him over which was not right.

I tried a few Spector 5s... I can't do the chunky neck, especially at the early frets... Too bad because they were awesome!

Is that the Buckeye NS-5XL they have listed on their site? Yeah, the necks on those basses can be pretty massive but I find them very comfortable to play due to them being "D" shaped. My NS-5XL is from 2011 and the neck is the largest out of all of my 5 string's but it's the most comfortable out of all of them.

I do like the obp-3 but to be very honest I have never heard it with DC, only bartolinis, duncans, fralins and MECs

I do sometime subscribe that companies that make pickups and preamps know whats best combined and manufacture them to be used together (hence they work better than combining pickups and a pre from two seperate companies), just like I sometimes buy into this theory for amp/cab manufacturers.....but its not 100% tried and true....so I can't generalize

Yes it is! I'm only 5 8 with average hand size . Ibanez is too tight but the Spector was just too damn big . The stambaughs and Ernie balls are just right
