You guys probably get sick of me posting about the Coda 5 but here goes again...

I spoke with Jaymi on the phone the other night for a bit asking his opinion about a couple of things. Let me just say, Jaymi's a great dude. I pm'd him with a question and he said here's the digits, give me a ring. He was great to talk with and we discussed Spectors and he gave me some insight into a question or two I had.

I'm a believer that scale length makes a difference in a good B string and a mediocre B string. I was ready to string the Coda up E-C because it was a 34 and I did it. It's a fun tuning, but I have to say, I did miss the low B. I switched back and began playing the Coda and compared it to another 34 inch scale bass here and it slays it. It slays many basses I've had, especially 34 inch scale basses. I'm very happy with this bass. I'm gonna try out a couple new sets of strings on the Coda to see if I can get it dialed in a little more, but I honestly don't see this bass going anywhere.

Good to hear! :hyper::bassist: My former and regret selling NS-95 had a 34" scale and it had an awesome B. I can't wait to compare my Coda 5 with 35" scale when it gets here. I believe mine will be the first Deluxe Coda 5 in our club??? Who did you get your Coda thru if you don't mind saying? How does the Aguilar J/J pickups sound with the OBP-2? How does it sound in passive mode? Sorry for all the questions. But I've had these questions in my head for almost 2 years now. Lol :D One more, what strings have you tried so far and what genre' are you using it in? Sorry, that's two.

Honestly it's that awesome, it's a dark burl

It's ridiculous for a small town like that to have such a sick bass

Tell Scott the guy playing the Sammie today sent ya, they gave me a great deal on that one, hopefully do the same for you

Earcraftmusic.com

I was floored

Interesting. I've been meaning to get up there to check out their stock (just never got around to it).

Yeah, it caught me off guard. I guess I would offer a return if the buyer paid shipping and a 10-15% "restocking fee"......

Its hard to be a private seller and have a return policy. The only return I could offer is if something was seriously wrong with the bass, however I try to inspect my basses to ensure there is absolutely nothing wrong with them before I even think of selling them.

BTW-just shipped the smadder ns2a off and will be plotting and planning for my next aquisition......lol :ninja:

I've only ever returned one bass, and that was because the seller flat out lied about the condition in the listing. I'm a stickler about condition when I sell something with lots of close-up pictures and a good description. That's why I was so irritated to get a bass that was obviously dropped off of a stand with rusty hardware and tons of scratches/wear what had been listed as "near mint". Consequently, I wouldn't take a return unless I'd really messed up the listing and it was obviously my fault. I'm not GC. If you buy an instrument that's well-documented beforehand, I'm of the camp that it's your responsibility to resell it if you don't bond with it. Climbing back off of my soapbox... :)

Do it, they have a BUNCH of em... like 8 to 10 or so.
Wish I could play em well, I didn't even plug em in because my hands couldn't do it but damn did the quality & sustain feel fantastic

I grew up there & its funny that they are the "premier" dealer in the area for a bunch of stuff, G&L, Spector, Stambaugh... stuff you dont see at GC

Hey man,

I got my Coda out of the classified's. I've owned a few Spectors. Love the build quality of all of them but I am J bass guy at heart. Sam was pushing to get me into a Spector and suggested the Coda. This one came along and I snatched it up.

I am mainly a church musician and it will work well for me there. I wouldn't hesitate to use it for anything else either.

I have used:
D'Addario XL's
Sadowsky Blue Label Nickels

I think I'm about to put some pressure wound strings or stainless strings on it though.

Just got the 435 bassgiant15 sold me setup with 50-125 ProSteels tuned CGCF. Very noticeable difference with the 18v mod vs. my stock 435 with the 9v TP. Only other difference between the two is the 9v is matte while the 18v is gloss. Love this bass though.

Got lucky with the ProSteels, the taper on the 125 and 90 *just* made it past the nut. I have some strings on the way from Circle K but didn't want to wait to set it up. Seems like the market is kind of thin for tapered single steel strings.

I've seen the DR Long Necks but have read negative things about the. I've got some of the Spector steels but those are exposed core which I don't think I like as much as a tapered string that still has some wrap around the core.

Any other steels I'm missing that taper? I think Sadowskys might but BSO was down last night so I couldn't see what they had in stock.

Thank you for the info! I mostly favor flats, usually GHS Precision SS FW. I'm thinking about trying some Dogals, if I can get them for under $100.00. I play mostly church and my CCM band.

For a moment my heart went into my throat this morning...I saw the UPS truck in front of my house and the driver had a big Spector box in his arms! I greeted him with all kinds of enthusiasm! As soon as I lifted the box I knew it wasn't my new Coda, too light! :bawl::scowl: But instead, it's my new Spector Gig bag I ordered this weekend! :D Still a great day! Hey, any day you get Spector gear is a great day!:hyper: My Coda is to be delivered anytime this month. Sigh! I bought the gig bag for my ReBop 4 that I just got. Really nice gig bags! This is the first that I've bought.

Can't wait for you to get the Coda 5-D. We'll be Coda Bro's! :D

Sadowsky won't sell singles, so forget them.

You looking for just a tapered B string in steel?

Ken Smith
GHS
MTD
SIT
DR LongNeck

Are all available in singles at Bass Strings Online. I think he can also get LaBella in tapered singles.

Still searching for a nice NS-2 but in my search I came across this:

Link Removed

If you scroll down it looks like they have an OLD Spector SB-1.

Not sure what those go for, but I think the price seems pretty damn reasonable for a bass that rare and old.

I know that feeling all too well!!! I have been stalking my email account for an update on my fretless. I PM'd Todd about his Forte 4 #001 last week and in his response he told me I'm still 4-6 weeks out according to PJ. :bawl:

...needless to say the anticipation is KILLING me!!!! :bawl::bawl::bawl:

That and possibly a light E/heavy A. The 90 I used for the G string barely fit the Euro bridge. I'm just looking to avoid having to file out the bridge unless absolutely necessary.

I bought a bass recently and the seller forgot to mention one thing when I asked if there was any issues whatsoever. I'll never forget to ask going forward: "Has the bass been in a smoke free environment?"

I received the bass, opened the case, and almost passed out from the smell. Seriously hardcore stench. I contacted the seller and he said that's how he got it and it didn't bother him. I spent a ton of time, TLC, and money getting rid of the smell, which was unbelievably hard to remove. But I did after a few months. The case is worthless - can't get rid of the smell in it. The seller gave me back some money, but it was a major pain to deal with.

So lesson learned, smoke free means a lot to those who don't smoke. Not being a snob, just prefer not to purposely subject myself to it.

Wow that sucks.

I've been lucky to never get something like that. Many of my basses were exposed to smoke in clubs, but for it it to stink like that it probably lived with a chain smoker. Gross.
