I do like the obp-3 but to be very honest I have never heard it with DC, only bartolinis, duncans, fralins and MECs

I do sometime subscribe that companies that make pickups and preamps know whats best combined and manufacture them to be used together (hence they work better than combining pickups and a pre from two seperate companies), just like I sometimes buy into this theory for amp/cab manufacturers.....but its not 100% tried and true....so I can't generalize ;)

Haha, whatever you do, don't play Bunkaroo in Song Pop :) Man, he destroys me in every category and is super fast with picking the right songs so he is tough to beat.

I did want to try the OBP-3 and will probably give it a shot sometime in the future but it was like $50 more than the BQC so I really didn't want to pay more. Plus, I wanted to turn my Euro into a ghetto Alex Webster bass since I couldn't afford to buy the actual signature model so I did something similar and installed the same electronics.

See, I am 6'3" with big meat fists so I can see how the neck would be tough for someone with smaller hands.

Thanks man. I already have 1 NS-5XL and I don't think another would be in the cards for a while. Maybe if I was actually in a band I would feel a bit different about it but to just play at home in my office, I really don't need this bass :) The one I have is pretty special though so I don't regret the purchase one bit since it is such an odd color but I am also a sucker for Buckeye Burl as well since that is my favorite finish.

February is always the crazy time for me since I get my bonus for work and also get my tax return so you never know what I will end up with :)

Hi all,
I'm starting with the bass and decided on Spector Legend 4 for the price/value. But would appreciate any help on deciding between the classic or the 4x as for comfort/playability/weight? As I'm looking at long hours of practice...

Any input is greatly apriciated!!

Yep! Its a super small pre. I had one running 18v in my euro 5 with no issues.

There are wiring diagrams online. Check bestbassgear.com...if you can solder and read a simple wiring diagram you should have no problems! :) the obp3 is my pre of choice!

pp is indeed push pull. if its on the mids it is your mid set point which I believe is 250 and 800, if its on volume i believe its active passive. I do like the obp-3

I played a Legend 4 Classic for 3 years, put hours of practice time in every week, a very comfortable bass! That'd be my recommendation!:bassist:

It seems that the OBP-3 is for non-metal players, perhaps? I don't play metal or acid/hard rock...I play some rock, Funk, blues, Jazz, CCM that's on the rock side and regular CCM. Where I need a clear piano like tone most of the time but if needed I can still dial in some gritty edginess. :bassist::D

Who knows about metal? I played in a modern hard rock band when I was using basses with the obp-3's in them. I played blues, rock, metal, and a wee bit of jazz.......it works for whatever. I like em. You are making me miss a 1990 W bass that was a NS design body that I finally landed on barts and the obp-3 and a neck that killed anything I've played. Last I heard its in California tearing up stages........wah....lol

You guys probably get sick of me posting about the Coda 5 but here goes again...

I spoke with Jaymi on the phone the other night for a bit asking his opinion about a couple of things. Let me just say, Jaymi's a great dude. I pm'd him with a question and he said here's the digits, give me a ring. He was great to talk with and we discussed Spectors and he gave me some insight into a question or two I had.

I'm a believer that scale length makes a difference in a good B string and a mediocre B string. I was ready to string the Coda up E-C because it was a 34 and I did it. It's a fun tuning, but I have to say, I did miss the low B. I switched back and began playing the Coda and compared it to another 34 inch scale bass here and it slays it. It slays many basses I've had, especially 34 inch scale basses. I'm very happy with this bass. I'm gonna try out a couple new sets of strings on the Coda to see if I can get it dialed in a little more, but I honestly don't see this bass going anywhere.
