SPECTOR® Club - Part 46

I bought a bass recently and the seller forgot to mention one thing when I asked if there was any issues whatsoever. I'll never forget to ask going forward: "Has the bass been in a smoke free environment?"

I received the bass, opened the case, and almost passed out from the smell. Seriously hardcore stench. I contacted the seller and he said that's how he got it and it didn't bother him. I spent a ton of time, TLC, and money getting rid of the smell, which was unbelievably hard to remove. But I did after a few months. The case is worthless - can't get rid of the smell in it. The seller gave me back some money, but it was a major pain to deal with.

So lesson learned, smoke free means a lot to those who don't smoke. Not being a snob, just prefer not to purposely subject myself to it.

I bought a fretless Carvin once that must have belonged to a pipe smoker, no odor on the bass but the case was exposed to it,
however in this case it actually smelt pretty good, some kind of cherry blend.
If the case would have been exposed to cigarette smoke it would spend it's life in the shed.

That shipping price is pretty insane also. Since they are located in Canada, I guess those prices are in Canadian dollars?

Yeah not sure. Pretty bad if you have to pay customs/duties/tax on top of that.

Nice bass otherwise, it's just too blue (and pricey) for me lol. I'll be buying the next red Spector I see!

Found this today too. Price is a little high, but someone might be able to make a decent offer on it.

If it was just about any color other than blue, I'd be on it.

It was for sale on TB for $2600 quite a while back. He only responded to one of my PM's.

I love the color and it looks like a nicely figured piece of maple.

That and possibly a light E/heavy A. The 90 I used for the G string barely fit the Euro bridge. I'm just looking to avoid having to file out the bridge unless absolutely necessary.

Try Rotosound 66 Drop Zone, they are 65-130, all strings tapered so they easily fit the 435 bridge. I've put the second set already. they are good.

As I mentioned I have some CK's on the way but I didn't plan for a 4-string BEAD set when I ordered. This is my first order with them to test the waters. If I like the tone and the service remains reliable I may outfit all of my alt tuning Spectors with them. But if it gets to be tough to get strings on time I may have to stick with BSO for everything.

If he/she gets that money for that then I will be selling my Kramers for $4000....Kramer,Woodstock,Brooklyn...the best eras...SSD the worst....not my opinion was told by a few people that know more about Spectors than I do. He will be lucky to get $2k

I agree with the "he'll be lucky to get 2k"

Quick shot of Brandi in action rehearsing for a fill in gig I did in Texas. She performed flawlessly and sounded great. As she should!
