SPECTOR® Club - Part 46

Same with me, too tight from 1-3 frets...Also the spacing of the strings on NS2a's a little tighter than like Euro and NS2's...So now I have everything with same spacing, good when you don't usually look at fretboard and go by memory instead of looking at your fretboard the whole time when playing. :bassist::bassist::bassist:

Yeah, that's part of it too. I shouldn't have let Beaver talk me into the narrow neck. I went with it because I figured it wouldn't be that big of a deal (since I played nothing but 5s for a while, I thought any four would work for me - not true) and also I'd get it quicker because they were already being built.

The good news is that Beaver got back to me already today and said that I can return it no problem and he's going to get back to me in a day or two with return instructions (I think he's covering the return shipping too... which would be pretty great) and also with an offer on getting another white Spector 4 of some ilk. He really is going through a ton of stuff right now - deaths in the family, divorce... he's having a tough time, and I hate bothering him with this kind of stuff, but it was a HUGE investment for me - buying it straight out was something I saved for a while to do, so I can't just let it go. Plus the failure on the fit and finish of the bass alone means it needs to go back.

But it's not like I still don't have a 4 and a 5 to use so I'll be fine. I was just really thrilled to finally own my dream bass: a white, high end Spector. It'll happen eventually, I'm just going to have to keep up the patience.

Don't know if any of you guys have any interest but I am going to be selling off serial #001 Forte 4 and serial #001 Forte 5 to fund another Spector purchase. PM me if you are interested. I just wanted you guys to know before I sent it to the classifieds. Both are brand new and unplayed.

Welp guys, I had one of those "moments", an epiphone if you will at band practice last night. As many know, I have ended up with Chris' NS 4. I received it earlier in the week and was a tad underwhelmed. I mean, it was good, don't get me wrong but it didn't have that grind that my NS 2 had.

My world changed last night. In the band setting this bass just flat out kills. I have never played a bass that sounds so "big" in the live band context. I didn't think it was possible but it happened.

Where my NS 2 and Forte grind, the NS 4 howls. Part of me being a little underwhelmed at first was probably not EQ'ing the NS 4. I ended up having to cut a lot of bass just because it puts out so much more than the NS 2. Once I did this most of the boom blanket was lifted from its tone. The cleanliness of the NS 4 and its 18V pre and the DC's quickly becomes an asset in a 2 guitar, distorted mix. That clean headroom let's it cut through with extreme ease....especially the higher notes. While cutting though it never sounds harsh or abrasive....a very pleasant cut.

I've also found the bass sounds exceptionally good downtuned. Almost like it was made for low tunings. The notes and just big and clear. This, in concert with a good dirt pedal (I'm using the Darkglass B3K) gave me a few Rex Brown out of body experiences.

I know I'm gushing and honeymooning but I'm fairly certain the NS 4 is a keeper and will be just fine in my stable....................for awhile. :)

Thanks to all for encouraging me (spending my money) to pull the trigger.:bassist:

Glad to hear it! I will sleep better knowing she is loved and in a good home....

Well I keep getting trade offers for my upgraded rebop five. Last one was a sterling sb14 and 200! Your thoughts?

Here's mine

Rebop new 1400
Case 150
Electronic upgrade 350 glut lets forget that)

Sb14 new 649 with gigbag and I've seen them a lot cheaper

He values bass at 500

I priced my bop at 700 cash

He wants to trade his bass which he values at 2/3 original cost.

I sent him a polite email and stated that if he wanted to value his used bass at 2/3 original value then that is how we should value my bass at 1000

I said trades should be valued equally and I could not accept his offer. Rant over....lol

In! Kramer NS-2 and Euro Ian Hill with Mylee, my daughter.

Very nice looking Legend 4 custom! Welcome to our club and to the world of basses! I hope you don't get discouraged but keep plunking away learning the bass! There is a lot of free instructional lessons out there, especially on YouTube. And there's a lot of knowledge and experience on here if you need help. Cheers!
