I've been playing bass since 1988. Roughly a year ago, I bought my first Spector from Peledog, this black NS2a and I swiftly joined the Spector club. We were on part 16 then. This was the first bass I bought since 1998. Now I have 3 Spector NS2as.
I don't know what it is about Spectors that make you want to get more.
My dream spector is a NS2, or NS2o or a Forte.....

Here's my first ever bass and first ever spector. Trying to learn the bass. Thanks to Steve (Smadder) and Chris Loe for pointing me to Sam. Thanks to Sam (Limaguy) for all the help and guidance.
Congrats on that killer legend... if they still made them with PJs I would have ordered one or 2 already...great bass to learn on

I'm with ya, been playing spectors a little over a year... I've always felt like one was enough with my previous guitars, but I just want more Spectors.... they are just sweet
Yeah I can't believe that one year ago I didn't even have my first Spector yet. Now I'm a total middle class Spector junkie. I think I've had about 7 or 8 since then and currently have 3 USA's and 1 Euro. The sickness.

Are all Spectors heavy? Are any in the 8-9lb range?
Just curious as I'm loving my heavy Forte 5, but if I add another Spector, it will have to be <10lbs.

Lee, very glad to hear that you are happy with your new NS-4. The NS-4 is a bass that needs to be played loud & proud.
When I first took mine to rehearsals, I was taken aback by the sound - it was missing some of the grind & growl that my P/J Spectors had, and I had to adjust to the glassier highs, less pronounced mids & the overall wider sound.
By the end of the night I was really digging it, and by the 2nd or 3rd rehearsal, I realized the NS-4 had a beefy thickness & heaviness to the sound that my other Spectors simply didn't have. That smoothness & heaviness of tone makes my band's original metal songs sound harder & heavier than any other bass I've ever owned.
The more I think about it, my next USA ultraviolet bass might just be another NS-4.

Less pronounced mids is a good way to put it. They are there for sure but don't announce themselves like my NS 2 does. It is a thick tone for sure. Wow is it thick.
That's what i love about my NS20004 vs. the NS-2A, with dual humbuckers the tone is more 'even' and 'full' if it makes any sense, not lacking mids, but less mids than the P-J pickups, nice and smooth

Sam helped me in making the decision on pickup configs. Liking what I'm hearing form this (and also from those audio comparisons in the spector thread comparing the different configs.) but based on the audio, for my needs, I probably wouldn't go wrong with any config from spector
The 4 string basses are usually less than 10 pounds but if you are looking for a lighter model, you might want to look at the bolt-ons. I think my Rebop 5 weighs about 8 pounds so when I pick that up after playing the NS-5XL, it feels like a feather.
+1. My Rebop is the lighter of my two, makes the all maple NS 94 feel like a boat anchor. I haven't bathroom-scaled it yet, but it weighs way less than my P did, feels closer to what my basswood bodied Traben clocked in at.delucajohn2000 said:
