So I spent a few hours playing along with some older Cakewalk projects I have recorded bass on previously, now using the 6LX to play against the tracks. Makes me wish I could go re-record every track I've done with other bands. It's not that my SR5 and Carvin 6 sounded bad, but the Spector is just there where I want it to be.

I have a lot of material I'm close to completing so it'll be all Spector now. The hard part is deciding which Spector to use on each song.

I just got my Euro and I cant wait to get it out on stage. Of course theres always the worry thqt some ****er will knock it over, but just keep an eye on it and youll be fine :)

I was worried when i got my Corvette but after a few shiws the worry slipped away :)

I always have the rebop if i dont wanna take the euro. But i want the euro on stage.

One reason is that there arent many spectors in norway, i wanna show it off!

Quick update on my on-going saga with the Euro replacement tuners. (Yes, I know. I need to get a life.) Anyways, for those just tuning in, I recently procured an early '01-'02ish Euro4, and immediately set about to swap out the gold for a more subtle black. The bridge was no problem. Beyond being backordered through the Spector shop, a new black bridge was easy enough to procure, or will be soon. The tuning machings, however, were all kinds of problematic.

Around the same time as my Euro was being built, Schaller moved to a new, off-set screw mount and stopped making (commercially at least) the 90 degree ones that point down toward the bottom of the neck. Emails back/forth with Dr. Bünning (managing director in Germany) confirmed this. The Czech shop is still using what appear to be OEM variations of the M4 2000s.

So I turned my attention to other brands, and came up with Gotoh GB7s, which are easily available for $13/each from Warmoth. Interestingly, I also learned that Spector uses the these Gotohs on the US series, including my beloved Forte 4. Hey, if they're good enough for a $5,000 NS-2, they should be sufficient for my Euro4. I'm not sure if they are a 100% drop-in (probably not) so I will document the conversion process in a separate thread in case anyone else wants to switch from gold to black.

I don't even take my bass out now until it's ready to tune and soundcheck, and then back in the case or gig bag it goes until we're ready to play. Same thing between sets. It also never leaves my sight. Some places want you to leave your bass in some area, but it stays on my shoulder or within reach. I am the Fox Mulder of gigging - TRUST NO ONE.

I've been looking at GC's Spector stock recently and I've noticed the overall body shape (not the contours & carving) of the NS seems to vary between the US/Euro models & the Legends. The horn carvings seem to provide more neck access on some models, and the area below the bridge seems to be offset on others and symetrical on some.

Is this just photo angles, or are there different CNC templates being used here?

JPS mention in an earlier thread that the USA basses are hand shaped including the upper/lower horns, using wood files and hand sanding. Not sure about the Euro' and Korean bass bodies.

My favorite bass sounds typically come from a jazz bass, i love my american standard fender, but i also love some of the agressiveness you guys get from your ns-2's. Whats my best option with my ns20004? Do i need to go with an Aguilar pre 9 or 18 volts or do I need the 18 volt haz? I want a fat thumpy slap sound, burby fingerstyle sound that can be tweeked to get a little overdriven when i dig in.Help me out, thx.

Normally I would say Tone Pump.... but it sounds like the Aggie OBP-3 would be perfect for you

Going with either OBP2/3 would give you that. Especially the OBP2 @18V.

I believe the Schallers have a 7/16" bushing and the Gotohs are 9/16".

Another +1

I love playing my Spector on stage, I always seem to have someone talk to me after a set about either my bass or rig. Not too many Spectors out here in Winnipeg, either. I'm the only one ive seen gigging a Euro, though I have seen a few legends out there too.

I guess if I had a really nice USA id wanna use it mainly for at home/studio, but they're too nice and sound WAY too good compared to my other basses to just leave it at home.
