JPS - that build is stunning! I just bought a USA bolt on NS2 SE with the J/J pickups and OBP-3 configuration. I'd be very interested in hearing a sound clip of your bass to see how the 9v circuit differs from the aggie preamp. So far I've been blown away by the versatility of this layout.
Again, beautiful bass, fantastic color combo and I'm sure a its a solid player (as all Spectors are). Congrats on your new addition, play it proudly.

The more I look at these beautiful US builds, the more I realize I would be way too scared to ever gig them unless I was a high quality venue. I'd have to take a pill for the anxiety.

Some basses are "player" basses and some are "for show" basses. I'm into the players right now. I guess it would be ideal to have both.

I'd love to have a 1966 shelby cobra, but I wouldn't drive it to work everyday.

Of course..... I don't have 5k to spend plus I'm not good enough of a player to deserve a 5k bass.

That's exactly what I needed to hear. My only complaint on my Euro 4LX is that no matter how much I turn the treb down I still get more zing than I want. I also have a Rex5 Pro with a BT and humbuckers and like it's tone shaping better than the Euro. Last week I bought a new USA NS2 SE with a J/J and and OPB-3 configuration and realized just how much better the bridge J pu sounds with the Aggie preamp.
So now I'm faced with 3 options for the Euro 4LX - an OBP-2 or a OBP-3 or a 9 volt USA preamp.
I like the idea of a 4 knob non-stack OBP-2 as long as it gets fairly close in sound to the OBP-3. I'm concerned the 9 volt USA is going to be more along the lines of the tone pump which I'm not really liking as much so far.
Any suggestions welcome.

The Bass Place is an Authorized Spector Dealer. And they can sell new basses as "factory blems" (Beaver and Bass Central use this term a lot) or as a "Factory 2nd".

It just means there is some minor finish issue and they're selling it at a discount. And yes they can offer the full warranty because they are Authorized Dealers and it is a legitimate "NEW" bass.

I'm sure I am a worse player than you are but it has nothing to do with deserving it or not :) I kind of felt similar in the past but I see it like this. Some people collect things like art (technically, some of these basses are art,) cars, etc. I don't do anything like that so Spector's is my pick and I wouldn't change it for the world.

Buying basses like this makes me a better player to be honest since they make me want to practice more. I see this thing of beauty hanging on my wall and I just want to pick it up and play it so if anything, they have helped my playing. I work really hard for my money since I have a very stressful job that also has me working crazy hours so this is what I do in my down time with what little I have.

You know, I normally scoff at buying expensive basses that will just hang on a wall, but I can say that I'd kill for a Spector like that blue & chrome! Of course, it would go with me to every gig & practice to justify the cost, and I'm not afraid of the venues I play. Security's good and there's a lot of stage room to set my gear back away from everyone.

I can't wait until I have the capital to purchase an NS5 in Bahama Blue with a maple board & a P/J setup. :)

+1, good gear helps to keep the motivation going and if you "sound quality" you can play with anyone. Good thing about the bass is you can never really underplay the part. Roots, chords, and a simple grove sounds great in a mix and you can add as you progress. There is always someone that can play the part better no matter how good you are.

I felt this way as well... Its why I gigged my euro and pro series. I started doing more studio stuff and only then I felt i would push for a USA lol

HOOOOWEVER

now I'm just so floored by the USA I want a Forte to gig lol

I've said it before and I'll say it again :spit: No bass is too nice to gig, (unless built to actually be art). But especially US Spectors, they are built to be played and gigged. I understand being afraid to lose a bass traveling, Having beautiful basses never stopped Doug Wimbish from playing them. :p

I've been experiencing some minor anxiety regarding my blue USA NS-4 - it makes it's stage debut this Saturday.
The more I thought about it though, I realized that almost every nick, scratch, scrape or ding I've ever incurred has been in rehearsal rooms, where space is usually very limited & the alcohol tends to flow more freely than it does on stage.
Come to think of it, the only real damage I've ever had at a gig was when my old guitar played tripped over his cable while exiting the stage, knocking his Les Paul over onto my Stingray, dinging both instruments... :mad:

Part of my concern with gigging nice basses is I've had a bass knocked over by a soundman before so, it's like PTSD for bass. :)

I don't even take my bass out now until it's ready to tune and soundcheck, and then back in the case or gig bag it goes until we're ready to play. Same thing between sets. It also never leaves my sight. Some places want you to leave your bass in some area, but it stays on my shoulder or within reach. I am the Fox Mulder of gigging - TRUST NO ONE.

You can't go wrong with either! I prefer the OBP-3 because I like to adjust the mids myself...but the OBP-2 I had in my Forte was a beast!!!
