Ok so i recorded the NS-X today as I got my strings in (2-day shipping from west coast to east coast!) thanks to bassstringsonline, and strung it up.
There are some things to note about the clips. I FORGOT that I used to tune a half-step down in my last band so all my Spectors used to be tuned flat, and I recorded the NS-X in standard so....the NS20005 clip is off by a half step.
The NS20005 is the closest thing I have to others peoples Spectors, as mine is totally stock (EMG-Hz pickups and EMG BT pre) except for a mod from 9v to 18v.

The NS-X because it has only volume volume tone, I recorded with the tone at half, since increasing it from there boosts treble and cuts bass, and turning it down from there boosts bass and cuts treble. If you wait until the end of the clip I do turn it all the way up and all the way down for a little bit.

FYI there is no processing on these tracks, the amp's DI out is before anything in the amp, and I rendered the mp3 raw right after recording it, so there is some finger noise, etc. Also the 7th fret at the A string is worn a bit low, so there is annoying fret buzz on some of the notes, from that low fret, setup is as good as is possible so I may have to get the frets looked at. Also my pick playing isn't great as I haven't played with a pick in a few months, but I know a LOT of you guys use picks so I wanted to give you that sound.

Thats cool! I'm glad I am not crazy, they sound darn good. I was planning on getting a dual humbucker Spector and putting in EMG35p's, but this thing is apparently rather close to that!
No sense in settling for a 4-banger when you are a 5-er guy. I think you need a nice Bahama Blue NS-5 to go with your Coda. They would make quite the stunning pair, and between those 2 basses you could cover any style, genre or situation that ever came your way.

BassCentral has a Bahama Blue NS-5XL, and I bet you could get a good deal on it, cuz they have had it in stock for over a year.
I came really close to buying it, but I play 4 more than 5, and I have my Alex Webster, so I went the custom build route on the NS-4.

BC doesn't exactly keep their site updated - they still show my blue NS-4 as in-stock & available, and I bought it over a year ago...
a question about the rebop basses.

I wish that I had the $$ I would've bought a very nice Acoustic rig(s) $399.00 for a 500W combo 115, $299.00 412 Acoustic cab...there were all kind of sales on all makes of amp heads and cabs, combos. I played a 1969 Fender P, Dusty Hill custom shop Fender P, 1971 Fender P, Warwick Corvette(unplugged) The one that really impressed me the most was a beautiful Burl Buckeye M Bass 5 string. That M Bass had a really flat, thin front to back and narrow neck! I couldn't believe how much easier it was to go across plucking the strings with my right hand. The head stock front/back matched the body, beautiful.
cashier gave me a hand full of guitar pics for free, their red with GC on it. Bought a set of Dunlop strap locks for my NS-20005. #2 it is silly gooseOk so if you have a choice between....(drum roll)
1) New Ian Hill with tone-pump for $1498.....or
2) MINT Ian Hill with US 9 Volt(Haz) for $1250
I guarantee 100 out of 100 people choice door number 2.

I play lots of beater-basses since I get them cheaper since I just need the sound, but with my NS-X I can get all the tones I like in my Euro, so the Euro is up for sale. Might drop the price a bit for a club member.

I'll try to remake the ones I did acoustically and actually have them plugged in and do some fun doodling exercises that I usually do when I just well....doodle which is a lot.
It's great to be able to share things as I've learned so much from other people here!
We are very fortunate here that within our Spector family there are enumerable amount of talented bassist. Everyone has something to contribute. 
That's the way every Spector has been that I have bought. They all have been awesome. (Just wish I could've afforded to have kept them allBasstovsky - that's great that the NS-X ended up working so well for you. It's always cool when you roll the dice on a bass purchase & it pays off. Enjoy!

True, so very true. But I was thinking more along the color of ultra violet, ultra amber or the green like Lenny's DW Euro, on a NS-5XL USA 9V circuit, P/J pickups.

UltraViolet is my favotite Spector color, but the UltraAmber, Green Stain and Bahama Blue are right up there.
Nice tracks! To my ears, I prefer the NS-20005 tones.(Trying to stay impartial because I own one
) The NX does have that bolt-on bark to it.

I'd buy #2 to get that US9V for my 435 then resell it with the tonepump!!!
NOLA, just curious - are you still digging your Moog Taurus?
Mine have become an integral element of our sound. Yes they are akward, heavy as hell & a real PITA to transport, but they add so much to the sound of a 3-piece band.

I don't believe the ReBop has ever had an oiled neck...as far as I'm aware, they're all poly finished. Mine WAS matte, but it's been played so much that it might as well be gloss.
How do you find the 18V compares to the 9V on a passive pickup bass? Going by what others have said, there's really no benefit unless the pickups are draining load off the battery, too.

I don't believe the ReBop has ever had an oiled neck...as far as I'm aware, they're all poly finished. Mine WAS matte, but it's been played so much that it might as well be gloss.
All the Rebops I've played have a satin-y neck, not gloss or oil.
If I had that 6, I would just stare at it 1) cuz I'm scared of 6ers and 2) that finish is insane!

Love it! We are a 5 piece but it just kills in the right spots. We have been writing and rehearsing only in prep for studio time this Spring, so I have not had to lug them to a gig!
I guess....but I sold my custom Green Wimbish for less than that starting bid....but I guess thats why my stuff sells..
A week ago, I could tell you that a standard GB7 tuner would fit, but it appears that there is some disparity between the ReBop years.
I attempted a swap from black to gold, with the help of a fellow club member, and the black tuners from my ReBop were too big for his Euro. His gold tuners were too small for my ReBop, too. From what we gathered, they're SUPPOSED to be the same size, but it appears that different tuner reams may have been used throughout the years.
I was going to ask Patrick about this, but his PM box is full.
