I like the aggie pres. In my modulus, I swapped out the EMG pre to an aggie and it was a HUGE improvement. It went from clanky and unmusical to sweet and buttery.
I need to mod my aggie and tonepump pres to 18v and redo my sound clips. Maybe I'll have time this weekend.
Personally, I'll never buy a USA 9v unless it comes in a bass. I was treated rather poorly by their customer service last year.
I have the Aggie OBP-3 in my USA NS-2J and love it. I plan on putting an OBP-2 in my Euro to replace the non trim tone pump. I'm finding that I don't use the sweepable mid of the OPB-3 very often so that's why I'll probably go with the 2. I have yet to wire it up in 18 volt but at 9volt it's one of the best sounding pre's I've ever played.
Though I've only played a USA9v through a tube amp for a few blissful moments, I have LOTS of hours with my OBP-2 (Forte-X) through a SS amp ...
and I don't see how anybody can be unhappy with this pre.
If the USA9v gives you 100%, the OBP-2 or 3 is going to get you at least 93-96% of that from what I've heard.
There really are no losers in this game IMO

You could get the neck redone in matte. That would be different.

I could do that..........time will tell........I'm really GASing for something Special and sometimes it takes multiple trades/flips to finally get to that bass.........However, that being said, the IH model has a sweet neck profile that is slightly thinner than the Euro LX
Thank you for all of the comments so far on the Aguilar OBP-2 versus the USA 9V, seems like the majority is for the OBP-2 system with a lot thinking that the 18 volt connection powers it better...but...still a lot of love going to the USA 9V. Now if it would stop snowing so I can make a run to Tulsa and do some test driving!

I played my gold NS-2 at rehearsal for the 2nd time last night, and it was absolutely ripping! Sent chills down my spine & made the hair on the back of my neck stand up.
I don't know if I didn't have it fully dialed in last week, but she was sounding evil last night. My drummer said it's his new favorite bass, and we all agreed that what it lacks in bottom end (compared to my NS-4), it more than makes up for in aggression & punch.
All is right with the world.....

Yep, it's definitely worth doing the 18v mod on the OBP2. It's really easy to do and 100% reversible.
I have an OBP-2 at 18v in my CRFM and love it. My new NS-4H2 has the OBP-3 at 9v and it's pretty amazing. I love having the added mid control. The one thing I will say is this bass doesn't seem to have the same high end range that my others do. Not sure if its the pre or the bass. Still sounds great. The lows and mids are impressive. There is definitely a little extra magic in a US Spector!

I think my white NS2A may have belonged to Jeff at some point. Not totally sure though. I have the same issue with preamps though, I've been through about 10 in the last few years.....
Currently using a SVP-Pro but who knows for how long.....
Cool, an owner with both a OBP-2 & 3. Quick question, I typically leave the mid sweep on my OBP-3 in the center detent position with the mid knob pushed down and eq. with my rig if needed. Because I don't use the mid sweep much I was assuming on my next purchase I could get by with the OBP-2. Is that a fair assumption or are the two Aggies voiced drastically different? In other words, can you dial in the same general tone on both basses or does the Aggie 3 have some significant color it adds to the picture?
