I agree. The "tele" shape has never done anything for me!

...but I do like the single cut-a-way look that companies like Fodera/Ritter/Benevente produce...is that wrong??? :hiding:

I took the Body to Wilkens guitars out here in Southern California and Mr. Wilkens stripped the paint off for me.. :cool: Glad I took it to him cause since that quilted top is so thin I think I would have sanded through it. :eek:

I've had no problems selling basses quickly here in the TB classifieds. Set a fair price and it should go quickly. Can't comment on the other options as I've only sold here and on eBay (which also works well).

It seems that the finish on the Kramer era Spectors was a little weak? Even the Red NS-2 that just sold had the clear coming off. Then there's Doug's blue bass that's now a natural. Maybe they had a bad batch of finish at some point? I can't see how I could wear through any of mine except the NS2O oil finish.

Or maybe they've just improved the finish over the years...

I've never used TB classifieds for more than drooling at other people selling stuff. eBay seems like a good place to get slapped in the face. Lots of horror stories behind sellers getting screwed.

What were they finished in? A really thin poly coat, or a normal nitro would wear off in 20-30 years.

In my experience, bringing a pre up to 18V makes it cleaner so by bringing an OBP-2 from 9V to 18V would clean it up I would think. But hey, what do I know? ;)

I'd start with the classifieds. I've only had easy, painless experiences through there. Set a reasonable price and you should be all set.

Ebay is a hassle and it's really easy to get hosed as a seller. At least that's been my experience on there.

Off the current topic but what are the group's thoughts on a fretless Forte 4? I don't even know if such an animal exists or could be ordered. But I think it would be SWEET. Discuss. :bassist:

I don't see why it couldn't be fretless. Seems to fit with the "no frills" approach and that pau ferro would look pretty all bare. No frets is less work for them anyway right?

On the topic of fretless, I believe I am close to ordering my fretless build. Was going to wait until the others are done but with that wait I want to get it in in case we start tracking stuff for our next record later this year.

So basically I'll be modeling it after Colin Edwin's fretless that PJ spec'd out for him with a few differences. It'll be a bolt-on with the dual MM pickups, OBP-2, ebony unlined fretboard and the Hipshot A bridge - black hardware. Differences would be it'll be a 5-string (natch) and it'll be green - probably really close to John's NAMM NS-5XL. Only thing I'm undecided on is whether or not to gloss it. Opinions?

As I said last time you mentioned this build, it sounds awesome! My dream Spector fretless is spec'd out the same basically.

I think a matte with a dark green could be pretty cool. If its a little lighter gloss could work well too. I prefer gloss since its a bit more resistant to wear and tear. There have been a few times when I've bumped my legend and thought 'Crap, I've probably got a pretty good mark in the finish...' Only to check and see that there's hardly a scratch. The only bass I've got that doesn't have a gloss finish (euro 4lx) I haven't bumped yet, and it doesn't look like any of the previous owners did either, but I'm always worried that the finished might get scuffed up. That's all just IMO of course- I tend to be a bit paranoid/OCD with my instruments.
