I concur here. The videos I saw of it on YouTube sold me. I was going to look into something more expensive like the Analogman(?) but I odn't use chorus a ton so I figured I'd go less expensive. But it really does all the sounds I want it to do.

I concur here. The videos I saw of it on YouTube sold me. I was going to look into something more expensive like the Analogman(?) but I odn't use chorus a ton so I figured I'd go less expensive. But it really does all the sounds I want it to do.
I'm not an effects guy but my amp has Compression (set and left alone), Chorus (don't use but I will add this to my fretless sound), and a 10-band EQ (set and left alone).
What is most important to me about the tuner is the lights so I can adjust in a dark setting while performing, you can find just about anything to cover that.
I would like to find a nice tube effect to add some warmth if you have a good suggestion after your review and investigation?

How does the US18V sound compared to the US9V?
I have a TonePump right now and it sounds pretty freakin' fabulous. I understand the TonePump was designed to mimic the US9V in European builds due to US export restrictions or somesuch.

Thanks, that is a beautiful bass! I love the blue but what I would really trade for would be:
Spector Euro 5 LX Alex Webster without the blood spatters refinished in Pearl White.
Love the Spector Tone, like the thinner neck profile, love white basses.
I think basses are like women, though. You'll never find everything you want in a single package. Just have to love the ones you have the way they are.
Of course, you can't get women custom built.

I really can't thank you enough for doing that! My bandmates are already tired of hearing me talk about Spector all time and you can be sure I'll be flying the flag proudly as we promote the record.

And sorry. Couldn't resist the urge to use the title of one of my favorite Staind songs when talking about him.

Johnny is one of those guys who really prefers the Legend series basses over everything else.
He's owned NS-5XLs and Euro5LX models and keeps going back to his Legend5 Customs and Classics.
With thinner, faster necks, some bassists really prefer the Legends.
And think about it. With the Legends you get a solid maple body bass and just a couple of electronic tweaks and you can have a bass that sounds very close to the Euro and USA models.
I know sometimes some of you get a little down feeling like the USA and Euro models are better than the Legends, etc... but trust me... I've got a Legend4-Classic in my rack next to my NS-2s and there's NOTHING about this bass that is unworthy or whatever... it's hands down a great bass.
That's my happy thought of the day.

I say this every time, but man if I didn't already have a blue NS-5XL I would get a Euro like this for sure. I love this color. You have a great one there!

Agreed! The Legends are solid basses! My only beef with them is that they're not fully contoured, like the ReBop.
My ReBop 5DLX is my lightest 5 string ever, but still has that KILLER tone & playability!! The contoured body is very comfortable, too!
If you don't mind me throwing my opinion into the hat here... I have three NS-2s and an NS-4... so I'm very familiar with the differences in the tone.
The USA 9v is all op-amp and solid state. The USA 18v is a mix of op-amp and JFET tech (like the Aguilar OBP-3 but with 2-bands instead of 3).
It's a weird thing to me. In a live setting... in the mix the USA 9v sounds better to me. It has the right tone and growl to punch through the other instruments and crowd noise. It's really the best circuit for live performances if you want a growly, aggressive tone with punch.
In the studio, hands-down the USA 18v has my vote. It's very articulate and clear, but has growl and grit and can be aggressive and punchy. It also can be cleaned up much better than the 9v can. I've been a little -ho-hum- with the NS-2 in studio at times (depending on the application) and the need for a more traditional tone. It's a howitzer cannon really.
The NS-4 is a joy to work with in the studio... that bass has such an amazingly wide tonal range.
But put the NS-4 out there live and it has a harder time punching through.
I'd ask you if you want the bass for live performances or studio. And ideally I'd have one for each. I realize that's not an good option for most. But I said "Ideally"
The TonePump is actually a great circuit for both live and studio. Being JFET but having been colored for growl and grit. If you get comfortable with the output trim pot inside the control cavity and you tinker with it... you can tone it down for the studio and you can crank it up for live performances.
Also, you can easily wire it for 18v. The Spector Pimp-Godfather Sam has some experience with this as do others.
I have a TonePump in my 1988 NS-2A (which looks like a USA NS-2 now with the USA Bridge). It sounds GREAT.

I make suggestions about adding artists to the site here or there, but make no mistake, PJ has the final say on everything.
