LOL! The funny thing is people on the elevator always look at me funny when I walk on while reviewing my riffs from the night before. I can see it in their faces... What's this old, clean cut looking guy playing this awful heavy metal stuff? And how rude to do it on a packed elevator.
Here's the newest song we're working on. The bass is nice and high in the mix. This one might be DI off my MXR M80 instead of off the 800RB

Not a thread killer at all.
More like reality of why some of us love Spector so much.
No matter how messed up things get I always know that a solid hour to myself locked in my office with my headphones plugged into and my basses there for the playing; it'll all be OK.
That's what started me on this journey. Finding comfort during chemotherapy by playing the bass and letting my mind escape the pain and discomfort and negative thoughts.
So good for you.

pict up a new(to me) rebop5 today and i'm overjoyed because I finaly have a five string that I achualy like to play. I went to check it out thinking it would be like all the other fivers I've had that just didn't feel right but this babby has that spector magic that makes it a joy to play.
the bottom end is huge on this thing but the highs seem to be a little lacking, not shure if it's the passive hz pickups,the spector strings or the way the bridge is setup with the saddles all slanted the wrong way(tward the neck) but thats all getting changed any way.
since I gota have active pickups i'm thinking of putting a emg 40p or px in the neck position and I switchable split coil at the bridge but i'm not shure wich one tw,dc,cs??
can anyone explain the differences in these pickups??
I think with this setup I can have the p/j pickups that I prefer but with the added option of the switchable humbucker at the bridge.

Music has been a passion in my life going back to grade school when I saved up for my first transistor radio (age spoiler!) so I could listen to the Beatles. For all of us I can tell that music is a love, a sanctuary, a blanket we can wrap ourselves in to escape from all that is wrong in this world. Even when it's pointing out what's wrong.
And for those of us in this club; that love, that passion, is focused through the lens of the Spector bass guitar.

I was just looking at that and I was wondering if anyone knew what the center frequencies were on the tone controls and also what the dip switches did? Maybe they control those frequencies?
Download the GarageBand app...great for cutting out or adding together pieces of music, blending. As mentioned already, the voice recorder is excellent to use for vocal ideas. Also there's a new mini mic that plugs into your earbud plug offered by IK Multimedia that's excellent.
Give the TP or OBP 2/3 a try. I love either Aggie the best, especially @18V!So as some of you guys know I have an old Brooklyn that is missing the original US 9V Preamp as well as the original Dimarzio pickups that the bass would have came with.
Right now it has EMGX pickups with VVTT controls, with two original switches that are not hooked up, and it sounds great, however I'd like to get it back to the original setup, or at least get an active preamp in there.
As we all know, the US 9V is hard to come by, as is the MM114 copy preamp. I was listening to limaguy's soundcloud comparison clips and to my surprise, I kind of liked the sound of the Tonepump and Aguilar OBP-2 more than the US 9V in the clips!
Now seeing as though the Tonepump and OBP-2 work with both active and passive pickups, I could install one of those with Dimarzio pickups and utilize the now useless switches that the bass has for their original functions (active/passive and phase).
Unlike a lot of guys, I used to run my old Spectors with the US 9v pretty much flat, with the occasional small boost of the low end. I'm one of the weird ones who aren't going for that growly aggressive Eddie Jackson/Rex Brown tone.
So what do you guys think? Would I be crazy to not go with the US 9V and EMGs? Would it be Blasphemy? Sacrilege?
+1!I put an ancient set of Dimarzio Model P-J's in my NS-2A and I love it, I can see why Stuart picked them in the original NS-2s. I think the Dimarzio's are a little less articulate but more warm and growly (IMO!) so I think its a good idea
Haven't used it in a Spector, but I have used Aguilar preamps and I like that they very subtly (if at all) color the tone, and are the most "true" to the pickups passive sound, so it could be a great combination, OBP-2 or 3 with the Dimarzios

+1! AwesomeAndrew........at 18 volts it's a different beast.....i think you will love it. I'm all about headroom and aggie's get it at 18 volts
