A good starting point for sure! Should I check it in or ask about carry on?

And yes, it'll definitely be needed for the US tour :D hehe.

If its a flight case it would have to be checked in. Many airlines will let you carry on a bass or guitar in a Gig bag, but never in a flight case. The big problem that many have faced is that they bring their bass in a gig bag because their airline told them it was ok, however when they got to the gate to board, the person at the gate says " sorry that needs to be checked in." Now you are faced with a horrible situation. They want you to check it in but the bass doesn't have enough protection. The few times that I flew with a bass, it was in a flight case checked in the baggage hold. Never had a problem. If you choose the gig bag carry on scenario. Make sure you get absolute assurance that you will be able to, indeed, carry it on with you.

If you're not going to buy a second seat, I'd recommend the flight case for sure. When I fly with my basses, I'm a big fan of gate-checking. That way you have control of your gear pretty much up to the door of the plane. You hand it off, usually, to the guy who physically walks it down the stairs and hands it off to the guy in the cargo hold. Ditto once you arrive. Gate-checked stuff is usually the last on, first off. It's fewer hands touching your gear and no cargo belts etc.

Well today is a sad day for my band Momz Attic . I found out this morning that our Lead guitarist was hit by a car yesterday evening while on a bicycle waiting for traffic to clear. Two cars crashed in the intersection and one was thrown into him. He sustained serious injuries including the loss of two fingers on his fretting hand. I'm heading to the hospital from work to see him, I was told he needs a lot of support right now he is devastated with the loss of his fingers. Just thought I would share, None of us can ever imagine not being able to play our Spector basses, so I can't imagine what he's going through right now.

I KNOW YOU GUY'S DON'T KNOW HIM BUT PLEASE KEEP HIM IN YOUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS.

Hoping for the best, keep up the encouragement. Where there's a will there's a way.

Thats horrible, so sorry to read about this, I hope he finds the will to stay strong and believe he can still play.

Jody, that's a horrible thing to have to wake up to. :scowl: Your guitarist and situation will be in my thoughts.

(As The Spector Club's Resident "Disabled Guy", I *will* say that there are a more than a few Guitarists and Bassist who have continued to play minus a few fingers. Hell, minus an entire arm... Point being, thinks may look bleak now, but they could be worse.)
Exactly, ideal no, but there is hope for continuation.

I just got back from a bike ride, this is the first thing I read when I got home. The things we take for granted. I hope he has a speedy recovery.
