Spector NS-4H2 vs EURO4LX-TW sv FORTE

Hi Guys following your advises, i have been checking the forum for a preowned Spector, and I get to this questions.

Whats the real difference between the NS-4H2 / EURO / Forte.

because are all them in a "similar" price at end and im not sure witch one to choose.

I feel atract to the NS-4H2 because of the Aguilar pre, but on the other hand there is more basses available of EURO series in 5 string, and regarding Forte well there are not much of thme.

so, i will be please to hear your thougts.

BTW Today i own a Spector Q4PRO 2000'

Does your Tonepump have the trim pot on it or is it one of the older ones without the trim pot? If it's the older one without the trim pot, those tend to be very hot so you might want to change it out with a newer Tonepump that has the trim pot. I did that with my older Rebop 5 and now I am able to adjust the gain to the output levels of my other basses which makes it much easier.

I got a bunch of hiss with my non trim tonepump as well and changing it out made it better. There is still some there but it is not nearly as bad as it was with the old pre in it. You may also try lowering the pickups a bit since that could lower the gain a bit as well until you can get it to a point of your liking.

Hey anyone got 18v in their NS2A? I had 3 batteries in mine and it was set up wrong so it was draining the batteries had it fixed so now it is running 18v ..cant wait to try it out will let you guys know..

2008 if I'm not mistaken

2008 is correct.

If you look inside the cavity a non-trim TonePump will be a plain black box. On a Trim TonePump it will have tiny white dial on the black box and usually it will say Spector Tonepump on it.

This is a tough question since all 3 of these basses are very different. Which Forte are you referring to a Forte 4 or 5?

A EURO4LX-TW a very high quality Czech Made Bass.

A Forte that will be in the same price range may be a better choice since it is a USA model.

A NS-4H2 will be much lighter then the others and its a bolt-on. Also a USA made bass.

If weight has anything to do with your decision then the NS-4H2 should be on the top of your list.

If you are looking for the classic Spector Tone then the Forte should be on the top of your list.

If you want quality without breaking the bank then the EURO4LX-TW will give you what you need.

Also a big question would be, what type of Music do you usually play?

Cool, thanks guys. I'll have to place an order for a new jack, I've gone through and replaced all of my cheaper cables with high end cables recently so I know it's not a problem with my cables.

I was getting crackling and popping for the past two weeks, didn't use the bass on stage at a show we had on the weekend (rented a bass and was meaning to get a new jack this week) but now I'm getting nothing at all.

Did you buy a straight cable or one with a 90 deg. at the plug?

You are talking about 2 basses with TW pickups and another that has P/J pickups so is there a certain pickup config you prefer? Assuming the Forte is a 4 string, that has the P/J setup so that will be a big difference right there.

Correct. Lowering the pickups won't help the hiss but it will definitely help with the output level. The treble boost on the Tone Pump is pretty high so you will get some but I noticed much less after switching to one with a trim pot.

regarding your questions.

Id like to have a 5 strings but if there is no alternative i will get a 4 one,
I play rock / Heavy metal thats in general.

The bass that you inquired about that is mine is well known here. It was a 34" scale TW..........except the TW pickups were replaced by EMG DC's and the Tonepump preamp was replaced but the genuine Spector USA 18 volt circuit and a killswitch was added in the fourth hole........it's what I affectionately refer to as my "faux NS4". It sounds HUGE. The NS4 is the USA double humbucker pickup model. It's a cool bass. I understand your preferences for humbuckerss I played hard rock in an original band for 6 years. Now that I play covers again, I am using a p/j setup bass. Good luck on your hunt for a new to you Spector! There is a wealth of information in this club! Enjoy!

I think it's all personal preference. Do you like bolt on or neck through? If you do prefer neck through, then you can eliminate the one........from my experiience and other owners will chime in........the forte's tend to have a chunkier neck profile than the euro models...........not always but it seems to be a generalization.......

in deed i never play a neck through one,
I know that will be easier to find an EURO NT at the price range than a NS or Forte

I'm afraid that in the end Nico, this is your decision. Sam (LimaGuy) laid it out quite well. All of those basses are being used for your type of music with great results. Yes, there are more Euros on the market than USA basses and there's a reason for that.

My Euro5 (modded w/DC pups and OBP-3) was my only bass for some time and it rocks! But now that I'm bringing in my NS-4CR (P/J pups) there are songs that this bass kills on. So don't discount the P/J's.

If you can afford it go with a USA bass, and since I'm more a neck thru guy I suggest the Forte. But remember, in the four string they are a P/J bass, and the fivers have the DC's. The same holds true for the Euros (except TW) which, of course, I can also highly recommend. And as Botherbassj said the Euros do have thinner necks.

It's up to you amigo. Get the bass that "speaks" to you. All we can do is provide information.

Yeah, don't discount the P/J pickups. Sounds crazy but I never owned a bass with P/J pickups until I got this Forte 4 and I really love this pickup config. I actually put a 35P4 for my NS-4 and replaced the neck DC with that so I have a P/DC combo in that bass and really love how it sounds. I can always switch back to DC/DC in a matter of minutes though if needed which is why I love the EMG quick connects.

Many people mention the chunky necks of the USA basses which is true. One thing to keep in mind though, even though they are bigger, they are extremely comfortable to play so don't let that affect your decision if you are thinking about getting one.

The reverse P pickup paired with the J pickup in the bridge is an excellent combination, it's a big, BIG part of the classic Spector tone IMO.
