This thing will punch you in the chest if you let it so I actually had to lower the pickups a bit since the animals in my house would start to run when I would play this bass, lol. The combination of those pickups and the 18V USA circuit really sound nice together but my dogs are definitely not a fan :D

I remember when Chris Loe had the bass, he tried the P/J combo and said the same exact thing about the J pickup lacking in output. His favorite combo on this NS-4 was the P/DC combo as well but his favorite was the P/J setup so he sold this NS-4 to fund the blue NS-2 he bought.

It does sound quite good, but to be honest, it even sounded good before without a preamp. Just goes to show that a lot of tone comes from the wood/construction/hardware, etc.

Thank you! Yeah when I saw it on ebay I just got a feeling that this was a bass that needed to be restored back to how it was. I love old basses, I love Spectors, so buying this just seemed to make sense.

I will hopefully one day get to swap out the MM114 for a real deal US 9V once they become available.

I'm going to try and take some "glamour" shots of it a little later today to show it off some more.

Oh and just for some bragging rights, I'm only in this whole project for around $1300, so I think I did pretty well for myself.

I checked with PJ on my Bahama Blue NS-4 build today; the finish is taking a lot longer than anticipated. It sounds like I'll be waiting another month. PJ did share this with me:

"also great timing on your order. starting this month our USA Bahama Blue & Peacock Blue are now +299.00 List to help offset the extra labor and paint costs involved with these colors we custom blend each time."

I knew there was something special about the blue ones! Glad I ordered mine when I did.

Yes there is. I had a Bahama Blue matte NS 2 in my hands for a few days and the finish was just amazing. So many colors in there that the camera doesn't pick up.

Have you contacted PJ about the project? He might let a USA 9v HAZ circuit go because of the historical significance of the project. Unless they are desperately short of circuits. If that's the case, they should be searching for a better manufacturer.

Love what you've done with that bass!

Yeah I contacted PJ when I first got the bass to check out what the switch functions were and what pickups it would have came with, and he said to check with him periodically to see if he has an extra US 9V that he could let go.

I'm going to email him in a bit to show him all the pics of how it turned out and see if there's any spare US 9v around.

I'm not in a huge rush, its just one of those things that I'd want to do one day, but right now it sounds pretty darn good!

I would contact PJ. He actually mentioned this to me a little while ago so there could be a possibility of getting one.

He also mentioned in the comments on Facebook they have made a couple NS-5H2 10st basses. Just when I thought I didn't need another build. :hiding:
