I started using a capo on my (now) B tuned 4 string.
1st fret for those newer Rock songs that all seem to like C tuning.
Anyway, at the store (Sam Ash) I tried them all, not being really sure what, if any, would work on a bass.
The far and above best one was the one put out by Planet Waves, designed by our old buddy......

well here is the thing im not electronics savy/. it used to have 3 9 v batteries but they were draining to fast took it to the guy at sam ash who does a good job at working on basses and he took on e of the batteries out and saying it was hooked up wrong and fixed it so that the 2 in now dont drain or will drain normally. I was pushing it pretty hard though .IT SOUNDS FRIKIN AWESOME.. i have a SVT7 pro
I think this is what caused your problem. The 9v Korean circuit is designed to work at 9v's . When it had the 3 batteries it most likely was wired with the circuit on its own 9v battery & the pickups on separate 18v's. I am guessing the 18v part was connected in a way that it always thought it was plugged in; so it drained those 2 batteries quick. I assume now, the circuit and the pickups are all wired in one loop which means the circuit is getting 18v's. I would suggest bringing it back to him and telling him the circuit itself should only get at 9v's. It may end up having only one 9v battery after he knows that info.
I have been distracted by vintage Fenders and eating crow about strings lately but I was able to steal away some time this weekend to spend with my NS 2000/4 and as soon as the dust settles I will be looking for a second Spector to add to my collection. I need a 5 string I can tuen down to Eb for on of my gigs. I love the Korean neck through but I would love to learn about other Spectors to keep my eye open for in this same price range.... any suggestions greatly appreciated!

My thought would be that if you are putting 18v into a preamp designed for 9v then any audio issues you were hearing were from the preamp. IMHO
Your amp's input stage should've indicated clipping if it was being overdriven and making the popping sound. (And probably any overdriven input would yield distortion, not popping.) I think what Sam said about having only one 9v for it all is your best bet. After trying to fit two 9v's into my Euro and NS-4CR I don't know how you got three into your control cavity.
Personally I'd hesitate bringing your bass back to the same guy, but that's just me.

I love going in and test driving the new stuff when I get a chance but I always seem to turn away and go back to the warmth and tone of my Peavey...it's just pretty much a practice/stage monitor anyways because I always run DI to the board for the out front.
I have a tone pump ill swap for your bqc, I just took it out of my euro lx4, the bass is less than a year old, it';s all still wired except for the jack and pickups, I clipped the pickup wires and left the ends attached so you can still see how theyr connected, I have the stock knobs as well.
has your bqc been solderd or is it all plug and play conections

Your amp's input stage should've indicated clipping if it was being overdriven and making the popping sound. (And probably any overdriven input would yield distortion, not popping.) Agreed. It's meant to work at 9v. You just need to splice the hot lead to power the pickups and use just one battery.

Thank you I am going to take it back to him and explain to him it is designed for 9v and go from there . the amp was not clipping at all. the pop happened from just tapping the string not even lucking it with my finger .. Thanks for all your help guys. I will let you know what it is.

I bought a set of the new Spector 603 strings and was going to put them on my red Euro, but now, reading all of these posts, I think I'm going to put them on my NS-4H2. I tend to detune the Euro more, and I know what I have with the Fat Beams - great strings. So, I'll let you all know my thoughts in the next day or two.

funny you say that, its actually Peavey amps I want to try out... but I'm more of a "gig it for a month" kind of guy.
