SPECTOR® Club - Part 66

Guys, talk me out of buying a cabinet.... I practically don't need one because I don't play with a band now and I have a small practice combo to cover my home practice....BUT I've always wanted this cab (MarkBass NY 604, I just love it) and they have been discontined + one guy here sells one at good price....I'm struggling...

Get it. Always better to have it and not need it than not have it and need it ;)

I like my pf500/115 setup. Eventually I might add a second cab.

I need more than a single 15 or dual 10. They just don't move enough air for the sound I want. The only reason I didn't get a PF cab with my head was because they only offered the 210 and 115 at launch. :( They added the 410 sometime since then, though.

ya I saw that... I've heard a legend through a 810 hydrive and I thought it sounded great... I'm not sure what head it was.

I currently run my Portaflex 500 through a Hartke 410XL. It sounds amazing.

I want to move my 410xl to get a PF-410, though. That way I can mount the flip-top and make moving my gear that much easier.

So I have a super-technical question for you guys - what do you do to keep yourself from tripping over your cable when gigging?

I ask because even when I am on a long cable, I just don't feel as "free" to move as I do with a wireless. But for the big show in a couple weeks we've been asked not to bring wireless devices unless it's absolutely necessary. So I have a good 20' new cable ready to go.

I typically loop it through my bottom strap button so it can't pull out of the jack, but that doesn't keep you from stepping on it or worse. Just curious to see what everyone's experience has been.

Nice. Let me know how that setup works with the 410. I love the flip top. It's one less thing I have to worry about getting destroyed when jumping gear around.

I always run wireless yet when I do have to use a cord I run it up along the side of the speaker cabinet and use one handle to pass it through before connecting into the amp, I also loop it around the strap so if I get tangled up the cord will not pull out of the bass or the amp. Some guys use different patterns on the floor but I never have enough room to wrap the cable so it pulls evenly with movement so I just put it in front of the amp in a loose pattern on the floor.

In my 5-piece band, I don't get a lot of stage room. I can only move about 6' left-to-right. I use a 10' cable looped through my strap and plug it into my pedal board in front of me, which is right beside my mic stand. I have more problems with my guitar player stepping on my cord than I do of tripping over my own.

The only thing that frustrates me is that the cable seems to form loops while I'm playing. I can't account for it. I'm not doing spins or anything. Where are these loops coming from!?

If you don't mind staying fairly close to your amp head, I kinda like this cable style (keeps it off the ground, and it kinda looks cool, IMO)

for me, I just act like its not there. I prefer the wireless, but if I use a cable its a 25 footer and I just move around like normal.if it gets tangled I just flick the cable like a whip. I try to tape down the cable from my board to the amp, when I have time... that is the only cable I've ever ripped out during a gig.

I pretty much do the same thing.

Tell me about it. I'm not doing Kip Winger pirouettes or anything, but somehow the thing winds up around my ankle.

Normally it's not a problem since we'd be playing on a tight stage or in front of two layers of band gear, but some of the shows this past month or so and the future shows have roomy stages so I'd like to be as active as possible since some of the other guys aren't as active, and people have said we could be more energetic. Easy to say - maybe they should try to play this stuff, sing backups and jump around at the same time!

That's a good tip. Typically I had plugged the bass directly into my rack tuner and then ran two cables two and from the pedalboard, but I have a tuner on my pedalboard now so I will be plugged into that directly at the front of the stage so the tape is necessary I think.
