the NS2A is nice and once upgraded it sounds even better, but a Euro 4 kills it.

Just did exactly this upgrade a couple of weeks ago.

The Hipshot M4 is a straight swap but the peg is a tiny bit shorter than the original. Doesnt affect anything or really notice either unless youre looking for it.

Very nice! Right now it's going to be powering a hulk of an old Sunn 1x15 I've got (400W at 8ohms), but I'm thinking of getting 2 of the 2x10's Ampeg makes for their micro-svt (which are supposed to replicate the 2x10's inside the 8x10 fridge everyone loves), because they are 8ohms each resulting in a 4 ohm load running both 2x10's. Primarily because they easier to move than a full 4x10, and I never play anywhere so big I need more than that for speakers, plus the 8x10 is not friends with stairs and I have many of those to deal with :D

Now you say 'clean and thunderous', do you mean it is simply better at getting a clean tone than the SVT, or that you can't get much tube drive/grit from it? I definitely want the warmth on clean bits, but I also like to get some drive going on some songs by digging in hard.

IMO the DC's get closer to the 'Spector Tone' than the CS which feel a bit tamer. I personally feel that the CS are closer to passive pickups in tone compared to teh DC's, and if I were to go for that sound I'd rather go with actual passives than the CS. The DC's are the real deal, but YMMV. There should be plenty of audio clips out there to compare, that would probably be your best bet, as your ears are the ones you want to please!

After owning Jamie's Euro4 with the DCs and and 18v for a while, and now with the NS-5XL with the same I'm sold. It's a monster sound! I think the DCs will serve your sound better but that's up to you.

I'm really hoping the P-J/9v in my NS-2 coming soon is able to keep up.

My 1st was an NS2A. Upgraded the electronics to EMG PJ set and the BQC preamp wired @ 18 volts and Hipshot D Tuner(i still miss my this one :crying:)


Few yrs later i got the itch again and grabbed a Legend.


Now i made my way up to my latest, Euro 4LX and i LOVE IT!!!

So I was tweaking the preamps on both my babies, I forgot how hot the TonePump is! The B string on my ReBop was clippings trace no matter how low I turned set the gain. Got that resolved though. I also change the dip switch settings on my Euro's BQC to brighten it up. They both sound killer. My precision gets no love these days....

you know, you bring up a great point. the NS4/5/6 has DCs and an 18v preamp... I'll be pretty close with the legend. Full maple body, DCs and 18v preamp...

decision made :)

Cool & thank you Carey! I have checked out his "Setting out practice Time" video, makes good sense. I have a dozen of Scotts YouTube video's downloaded on my iPad to play offline...I will start them tomorrow. You are spot on about being able to pick up bits of new info from different bass players Carey. :)
About that glove...he lives in UK where its cold most of the time, especially this time of the year.

For which one to buy...it all comes down to personal preference really. I believe the NS-2A is one of the best bangs for the buck. You played the red NS-2A, you liked the way it felt and played...did it knock your socks off? If not, then try playing a Euro-4 and see if it wows you, before you buy. There's alway, ALWAYS, a lot of Euros for sale out there, here, for sale. Try before you buy. If you are not able to play before you buy, I'd recommend to buy a Euro-4 from GC then atleast if you don't like it, you can return it within 30 days, something that you won't be able to do if you buy on eBay or most other places. Just a thought. :)

You might not even need that. Check the values on the pots. They're probably 250K, assuming passive pickups. Try switching to 500K pots. :) Cheaper in the long run and just may do the trick.

Failing that, an EMG BT/BQ or a Spector TonePump are relatively cheap and awesome pre-amps!

I was watching a few of Scotts videos today, he has a Fender custom shop P-bass that has some flats on it, he rolls the tone off for that ICE tone!

I'm entertaining an idea:

I'm wondering what my Forte 4 would look like with Gold hardware.
I know a lot of you prefer Black, so......

If anyone has gold USA hardware they'd like to swap, let me know.

My tuners are the Grover (GB7) type, not the Schallers.
I also have a matching Hipshot D-Tuner I could include.

My USA bridge has the intonation screws and I would want the same back in Gold.
