I want to get a band going.. Why is it so hard finding a drummer?

I hear that. we start with 70's, 80's more danceable stuff and move up to the 90's, 00's as the night progresses.
I just don't think going from Talking In Your Sleep straight into Them Bones is going to work.

Our favorite spot for Sober is at the end of the second to last set (we do mostly 4-5 set nights). That's when the most people are there.

Another surprisingly popular song the people even "try" to dance to is Rush - Red Barchetta.
You just have to wait for the audience to be ready for some music that no other band is town is playing.

We cover Distant Early Warning, Red Barchetta, Tom Sawyer, and Limelight but rotate between them....there is a lot of Rush fans and it's good that they are on the radio daily!

There, fixed it for you, and the answer is, only so many bass players per year defect to become drummers.

If I were to list my favs I'd put Sober first followed by Schism and so on. But for the clubs here? Sober's about it.
Tool is a phenomenal band but with a very cult following. We like to do 2-3 songs in a night that we call showcase songs that show off the talent of the band but still have some sort of connection to the audience and Sober is one of them.

Thats the way it is here, we do get requests for Tool but not often. We do the same thing setting up the showcase songs plus not everyone is going to be there to dance, we get a lot of people freaking out about Hey You or Money and some even try to dance to them!

I wish we could get away with that stuff. Not a real sophisticated crowd here.

I think I'm going to review some Tool to see which one to add, I'll take a listen to Sober with an open mind....

Nice selection Carey. I'm pushing for Limelight. We're just a three piece and TS is a bit much, even with my midi pedal powered sampler. DEW... Hmmm... That might be doable.

I think their recent induction into the hall of fame shows that they are still a viable and popular band.

A couple of questions for the class. Is there a good source out there for replacement Rebop Dlx 4 nuts? I'd like either brass or black composite. I ordered a fretless neck via Hanser and it came without a nut. I tried to get a couple made by dickheaddesigns but after one initial contact, they have gone silent. PJ suggested allparts or stewmac since they don't usually have enough extras just laying around the shop. But I'm not seeing much that would work. I'm kinda stuck so any guidance would, as always, be appreciated.

A Euro 4 nut will fit. Kind of stupid that it didn't come with one installed. Hell, necks direct from Fender come with nuts installed!

I have gotten extra nuts from JoAnn before. The Rebop 5 I refinished had a NS5XL nut and it worked fine. They are like 20 bucks plus shipping.

We used to do The Pot, I even had my JC fanboy pedalboard replica down to the Bass Whammy.Made a fortune when I sold off that board lol. Needed those to get the solo right and we also did Stinkfist because every band in town does Sober here. I think I still have a live recording of Stinkfist I'll post it tonight if I do.

We do stinkfist too. I love playing it The band wants to do the pot but I can't get a grip on the timing. It totally f's me up. I'd want to do schism, h., or 46 & 2 We used to do sober, but like you said, it's overdone!

Hey guys, so I have a major amp dilemma right now, and who better to help me then fellow Spector players.

So I currently have an older Trace Elliot rig, I love the tone, but the weight sucks, and I'm limited on power. I have a huge setup but mainly run a 300w amp, a 210 and a 115. I also have a 410 and another 210. My first option is to keep this maybe thin some of the herd out.

Option 2: Ampeg, I have an SVP Pro as well, I could pick up a class D power amp and an SVT410HLF or two and run this setup, it's a little lighter then the trace setup and potentially a lot more power, I do like the Ampeg tone too.

Option 3: Markbass, I could pick up the 210 combo and a 410 cab, save a TON of weight, but lose the tube pre. Which I love the tone of.

That's where I'm at, unless there are any other options that anyone can suggest?

So a lot of people on TB think we're as close to a cult as you can get but,......I play my SVP-Pro through a fEARful cab and really dig it. My power amp is a Carvin HD1500. My cabs have changed but my small gig cab is a fEARful 12/6. If I need more I add my 12/sub but have since changed to a 15/sub. No cab weighs more than 40lbs and my 3 space rack with pre/power amp weigh in at under 20lbs. Lots of options. I built my own, but there are builders that will do it.

I'm taking your option 3 as a budget and with that I suggest an Aguilar GS212 and a TC Electronic RH750.

Easy to transport rig with a great big sound. IMHO I use the Aggie DB212. It has a more mid forward tone which I like but it's a few hundred more. I had the GS412 at one time and it sounded great too so I can speak for the GS series too.

I think any head plus a 212 is enough for most folks. However I play Mesa so can't help ya out with any weight saving advice!

I run my ReBop 5 w/ 40J & EMG BQC into an Ampeg PF-500, through a Traynor 2x10/1x15 (all in 1 cab). I couldn't be happier with the tone I get, and it has TONS of power. My volume sits around 1 o'clock and it's loud enough to fill the club we play in sans-PA. The cabinet is on wheels, and is reasonably light. The head is small and pitiful in weight.

I vote Option 2. If you like Ampeg tone, this is your best bet and probably fairly cost efficient. one 410HLF would be enough unless you are into looks. Power amps are fairly inexpensive also.

Some of the club owners freak out when we play these songs, I tell them that we need to let the people take a break from the dance floor and order the next round which they can't argue with! When we play a casino then all of the music never gets questioned and everyone likes the variety....I hate being judged by the dance floor!
