SPECTOR® Club - Part 70

Hey guys, so I have a major amp dilemma right now, and who better to help me then fellow Spector players.

So I currently have an older Trace Elliot rig, I love the tone, but the weight sucks, and I'm limited on power. I have a huge setup but mainly run a 300w amp, a 210 and a 115. I also have a 410 and another 210. My first option is to keep this maybe thin some of the herd out.

Option 2: Ampeg, I have an SVP Pro as well, I could pick up a class D power amp and an SVT410HLF or two and run this setup, it's a little lighter then the trace setup and potentially a lot more power, I do like the Ampeg tone too.

Option 3: Markbass, I could pick up the 210 combo and a 410 cab, save a TON of weight, but lose the tube pre. Which I love the tone of.

That's where I'm at, unless there are any other options that anyone can suggest?

Ive been looking in to the SVP Pro myself. I would go with a sealed 410HE over the HLF though.

i have a SVT 7 pro and it is AWESOME and 15 pounds sounds GREAT actually.. IMO

I kept my rig and have been finding it very hard to replace 'my sound'. I have a speaker cabinet at home for practice/learning new songs, one at the studio for band practice, and one in the trailer for shows so all I have to transport is the amp and when we set up a show I use a dolly....just in case your thinking about keeping 'your sound'!

Some of the club owners freak out when we play these songs, I tell them that we need to let the people take a break from the dance floor and order the next round which they can't argue with! When we play a casino then all of the music never gets questioned and everyone likes the variety....I hate being judged by the dance floor!

If you want to clear out the dance floor, play 2112!

if you get the newest version of am p i have not heard any complaints ..my REV C board did go but it was under warranty and it is LOUD AND PROUD it is a great amp .. i have not heard any bad things about the pf800 ..

Check the threads around here- you're smart for thinking this! No reason to give those guys $$ anymore really when there's so many other options that work, and stay working.
If I wasn't playing Mesa I'd have Aguilar stuff. Their tone with Spectors is just glorious.

This being said, a non-trim TonePump is overly ballsy. Great tone...but it's LOUD. It's the only active pre-amp that's required me to step down more than 12dB.

I found that the ReBop with the non-trim TP paired with EMG-35 P/J pickups makes it very manageable. Here's the one a had a year ago and sold to a member here.

I understand this too. When my primary gig was playing for a church band (basically a cover band), you can get stale because you are playing the same style of music. I always loved when we played a funk or gospel song because that is my weakest area of playing. So I always enjoyed that

As both bands I play in are church bands...one your typical Sunday morning but we change up our music a LOT but you're right about playing old gospel music IS challenging, I resort back to reading sheet music for those lol. My Tuesday night worship band, SGHOP, though we play cover songs it's more creative/improv, which I just really really love to do! Especially with the Spector Bass tone, improv is beautiful stuff! Sometimes I think about doing the club cover band to earn some extra cash for S.A.S. But I honestly don't know where I'd find the time! I'd literally have to eat/sleep sitting in my music stool holding my Coda! Lol

I tried my 40J's paired with the non-Trim, and it was still too much. Even stepping it up to 18V to smooth out the sound didn't help it be too strong. Just my opinion, though.

I'm happy with the BQC I've put in...now if only the shop would finish the truss rod removal so I can find out how long it is and order a new one!!!

I'm taking a break from the church activities, the cover band has the next three weekends booked so I will be busy and might need to borrow your stool for eating and sleeping! lol I started getting into the Scotts bass lessons but then my internet/phone line went down at home...glad I wrote down some notes to run some scales, jam to the Jaco riff, etc.

Im sure it does. I would just be more comfortable buying and older model then one of the new ones.

A couple of questions for the class. Is there a good source out there for replacement Rebop Dlx 4 nuts? I'd like either brass or black composite. I ordered a fretless neck via Hanser and it came without a nut. I tried to get a couple made by dickheaddesigns but after one initial contact, they have gone silent. PJ suggested allparts or stewmac since they don't usually have enough extras just laying around the shop. But I'm not seeing much that would work. I'm kinda stuck so any guidance would, as always, be appreciated.

For my former ReBop 5DLX I ordered a Euro 5 brass nut, $25.00 shipped from Spector. I'm surprised about AJ from dickheaddesigns not getting back with you...I've ordered from him a few times and so have others here. AJ Yenser is also on FB, so if you want, you might be able to contact him there.

I have gotten extra nuts from JoAnn before. The Rebop 5 I refinished had a NS5XL nut and it worked fine. They are like 20 bucks plus shipping.

I owned the PF-500 for a year and I had no problems. A very strong amp. I only sold it when I down sized from my PR-410HLF and SVT 810e, due to my left shoulder permanent injury I miss that Fridge!
