No doubt..

Love my pick tone, but theres nothing like a killer fingerstyle bassist. I've been following Scale the Summit's bass player Mark Mitchell for a while now. They were just in town and I cought their set this time, he made playing his Warwick 6 look so easy.

I picked up a tab book for the new album and his fingerstyle technique book. Haven't gotten too much into the technique book but I know it'll be time well spent when I get the chance.

Here's a video of him playing. might be worth looking up his books if you like his style!

yeah absolutely. And there's something about that grounded thump it delivers. I still love the sound I get out of my basses using a pick. My Fender P is played at least 90% of the time with a pick. The Spector sees much more fingerstyle playing.

So I dropped the BTS in my ReBop, sounds great, I think I'll keep it. For some reason I can't run it at 18v. It'll take 9v no problem, but when I swap to the 18v harness I made, I get not control on the preamp and almost no output. I'm tired and now have a headache from troubleshooting it. Wish me luck on fixing it tomorrow.

Maybe the dual bat harness? I just sold a NS4CR w/BTS that I converted to 18v and it worked great. You'll get it. ;)

When I first got into Spector basses I loved the pick tone of the NS2A, I played finger style when I switched to the passive Fender P and Jazz basses. With the NS2 basses I play 98% finger style and only use a pick if the song has that tone recorded or if there is a part within the song that runs a little fast.

Actually Michael, mine is a four string. :) Bunk has a fiver though.

Besides, David is much better looking than I am. That's how you tell the difference too.

You don't think that maybe replacing the preamp might help me in the short term? I was mostly considering it because I've been quoted such a cheap price on the pickups that I thought that even if I don't like the upgrade it won't be a big loss, and unfortunately it looks like it may be some time before I'm going to be able to afford a better bass, like say a Euro. I might not do it, but I'm just trying to figure out if either replacing the pickups or preamp can help me cut through a little more without all the sensitivity and percussive "string noise" I'm getting now. Thanks for the advice so far.

Hey all,
Having some issues with my Spector, and I was needing some advice and input. Also I guess just to check and see if anyone else is having the same issues.

So in early August I went to my local guitar store on a whim. I was playing through some basses when I saw the Spector, tried it out and ended up buying it. Since then, it has been my main bass being played in daily practice, at my church and at my band rehersals too. It has been absolutely incredible so far. Saturday at band rehersal I was playing the Spector, it was fantastic all the way to the last song. Half way through, nothing. No sound the whole thing goes dead.

So one problem I was having is that the cable would occasionally fall slighly out of the jack and I'd have to press it back in. Thought that was the issue, nope. Tried plugging straight into the amp, nope. So thought the battery must be dead. No problem, was the last song so just called it a night and tried to fix it the next morning. I replaced the battery with a new one. Tried it out, and still nothing. I tested my setup just to make sure I wasn't playing with a bad cable. Finally everything worked with my other guitars. Plugged in the Spector again and I get nothing but a high pitched whine.

So I registered my bass with Spector and sent an email to their customer service. I have not heard anything back, but I wanted to post here just to see if anyone else has had this issue. I am wondering if my preamp has blown something, or if I ended up with some kind of ground loop.

To me, it sounds like 1 of 2 things. You've either got a grounding issue, where something's touching the side wall of the cavity, or another wire, when it shouldn't...or you've got a bad jack, emphasized by the sloppiness. My money's on the jack.

We are starting to get a lot of Ultraviolet basses in the group which will take some effort keeping straight! lol

Sounds like it might be the jack, give Todd a call at the guitar house (918) 835-6959 he can help you chase down the part you might need and might even have it in stock!

As best I can tell, and I've been watching for pics of any UV bass made, I have the only one built with an ebony fingerboard and defiantly the only one with chrome hardware. So those are "tells" for my bass.

Absolutely! Once it's in your hands the whole world is "spinning in greased grooves" again. LOL
