I've not noticed this on mine.

Yeah...could have been the light I was holding it in, the pattern was looking great yesterday in the sun! I think it might have to be someone like a photographer that controls the light to notice any changes.

When I first tried the DR Lo-Riders I didn't like them but I'm glad I gave them a chance, once they balance out after the break in they sound great so I picked up a couple of sets and these will be the strings for Iris because they work great with the BEM. I put a set of DR Hi-Beams on my Fender P-bass and I have found that they have a similar brightness to the Lo-Rider but so far have brought the P-bass to life, the extra set of the Hi-Beams will be installed on Scarlet soon which currently has the Ernie Ball Cobalt strings which I have enjoyed a lot and match great with the Pau Ferro.

Question for all who have experience with the EMG-35P4 pups. Do they sound the same as the EMG-P pups?

You'd have better luck trying to take a musket from Charlton Heston.

Jeff, when I had the ReBop 4 DLX it had the EMG 35P/J's, to my ears, they sounded the same. And it tamed down the non-trim TP.

I'm still using the D'Addario XL Chromes ECB81 flat wounds on the fretless, they have a warm mellow tone but the hex core gives these strings the tension and ping.

I'm mulling over ideas for my next build. When I can, I'm thinking of an NS-4 with a pair of EMG35P's. The dual Ps were discussed a while back and I liked them in an old BC Rich I once had but it was said that Spector couldn't do a double P bass. I thought this would be the next best thing. Plus, with the no-solder connections it would be easy to go to 35p/35j or two DCs if I wanted.

We gotta start 'em young! He does love music. I think all kids do, instinctively. I'm sure this has been asked a thousand times, but I'm curious. At what age did you guys start playing bass? Not piano or guitar. Bass. I started at 16 on a P-bass clone made in Japan by an American company named Hondo.

Both have HAZ preamps.

Hello all! Quick question. I have a beloved legend fiver that is stock. I'm going to be doing mods to it to tweak its wonderful sound to the next level. First mod will be switching to 18v for a little extra headroom. This looks to be a very simple mod, just run another harness in series with the existing one. Any issues I should know about before I do this tomorrow? I come from a fender background and have tweaked those many times, but this is the first Spector, I'm just wanting any tips from the knowing here. Thanks in advance.

Agreed! The younger they start the better!

I started playing the year after I finished the 6th grade of school. The junior high school band was available in grade 7 and I knew I wanted to be in band over art (never really was much of a visual artist). I tried to convince my parents to let me play drums but they didn't want the noise and my brother was playing guitar at the time. I started learning simple bass lines on his 6 string guitar (he taught me how to read tab) and later that year my parents got me my Austin P-bass and amp kit.

That was one of the best things my parents ever did for me and I'll take my basses to the grave with me. I was probably 12 or 13 at the time and learned at that point that one of the best things a parent can do for a child is support them in whatever they choose to do.

16 for me too on a borrowed copy of a Hofner McCartney bass.

My first bass was a Gibson EB-2D in 1972. (pic not actual bass)

But soon my parents paid me to paint the house and I bought a Rick 4001 in 1973.

I was a late bloomer. I started at 19 when all my friends left for college and all of a sudden I need to decide what would take the place of football/school. Picked up an old electric guitar at Sears where I worked, but my friend bands needed a bass player. Unfortunately we were root note heavy metal/80's rock. I didn't get as good on the bass as you rush guys, but met a lot of woman. I wish I had waited to join bands and learned more of the theory, musical aspect, but I was to busy playing dive bars.... I turn the big 50 next year, it's probably time to learn the theory a little more......

I got my first bass when I was 11, in '81. Started playing shows when I turned 12. Got it because there were bands forming in my school, but not a single bass player. Immediately hooked- such a shortage of bass players in my area I ended up playing in bars with cover bands when I was 16, with 30 year olds.
Then I got into originals only bands when I graduated high school, and hit the road. Been touring ever since.
On a different note, I just realized i've been playing the Spector I recently acquired with the factory setup that it came with, and it plays perfectly… that's a first for me!

I was 15 but had been playing trumpet since the fifth grade so the foundation of music was solidly underfoot. Two months later I found myself in my first gigging band and never looked back. Its been a passion ever since.
