DR Lo Rider Users:
I tried some LaBella Steels, they are pretty good. The don't lay quite as low and are not as "sticky" as the lo riders. Maybe not as much zing...

I'm not saying they are better than lo riders but they are very similar. Some might like them better.

Lo Riders have been my favorite since i've discovered Spector basses and nothing has come close, until now.

Just thought I would share because I now there are a few lo rider users in this club.

Aren't the LaBellas pricey though?

Are you talking about the Hard Rockin Steel? I know people that swear by them. Been awhile since I used them - had them on an old AmDeluxe PBass I owned in the late 90s. Always thought they were a little brittle sounding compared to DRs but I'm a DR addict so I'm probably a little biased.

Been in HiBeams for a long time now, thinking about trying out the SS LoRiders now that we're turning a half step down.

I've got Lo Riders on my NS2 and just put ProSteels on my NS5XL. I'll give them time before I decide.

I'll use ProSteels in a pinch if I need strings and the mom/pop shop I get strings from doesn't have DR in stock, but there's just a built in sound that D'Addario strings have that doesn't sound right to me, like an overtone thing that doesn't sit well - not sure how else to describe it. I know strings are such a personal preference thing - one of my roomies is a bass player and he hates the sound of my DR's - he buys the cheap strings from Musician's Friend (whomever makes their house brand) that to me sound like kite twine but he loves them.

I'm trying the Pros in an effort to save money. They're a lot cheaper but if I don't like the tone that won't make a difference and I'm back to DRs.

So why does Robbie Merrill play Euros???
Because he's a southpaw. Believe it or not (and I think JPS pointed this out also) you can't currently get any USA as a lefty (unless something has changed recently).

When I first tried the DR Lo-Riders I didn't like them but I'm glad I gave them a chance, once they balance out after the break in they sound great so I picked up a couple of sets and these will be the strings for Iris because they work great with the BEM. I put a set of DR Hi-Beams on my Fender P-bass and I have found that they have a similar brightness to the Lo-Rider but so far have brought the P-bass to life, the extra set of the Hi-Beams will be installed on Scarlet soon which currently has the Ernie Ball Cobalt strings which I have enjoyed a lot and match great with the Pau Ferro.

True. Before I had my DR deal that's what I used, really quality strings that can be had for around $10 a set :)

I play LaBella Hard Rockin Steels exclusively. They're the only strings I haven't broken, and they play great - very fast!
If you need to tune down, the LaBella HRS M70 set is higher gauge and they do great.
