SPECTOR® Club - Part 73

well, I ordered an extra brass nut today from PJ just to be on the safe side, may never use it, but at $25 it's is a good hedge, and its reversible if I just don't like BEAD on a 34.

Holdsg - I just took a glance at your bass pics and noticed you have exposed poles on your pickups. Did you flip out the EMGs for something else? If so, how do you like the new sound with the OBP-3 preamp?

The NS-2J SE you are referring to came to me with the Aguilar 60s pickups. MDBass owned it before me, and I think he was the one that swapped the pickups, or had it made that way, either way, I like the combination of Aggie pups and Aggie pre very much. This bass just sings, and its only for a change in genre am I evaluating tuning it BEAD.

Have you tried contacting Todd Cooke, he might have some ideas or suggestions on how to get this fixed...he might be able to help (918) 835-6959

No. I haven't. The luthiers in my area are very experienced & have built many guitars from the ground up. I trust what they say & their estimates.

Now, if Todd can work me a sweet deal on a neck, I might bite...but it would have to be much less than ordering direct through Hanser, given that I'd have to pay duty & taxes when it comes into Canada.

Just heard back from Todd with GREAT news. I am ordering a second Euro 4 - this one an LX with P/J pickups.

Todd and PJ were very, VERY good about getting what I wanted pushed through.

Matte Steelburst finish (might be the first Euro with this finish)
Maple board
Black hardware

Deposit goes down on the 15th and the 5-6 month wait begins. I'm stoked.

(Now to find a 9V Haz preamp to throw in it!)

You had doubts about Spector Customer Service????? :eyebrow:

I have never heard a "NO" from Spector when comes to getting changes made to a customer's order.

I could see if it was like a color change or something that has already been applied to the product, though. That would be totally understandable and expected, IMO.

Can you get a Spector ReBop neck via Hanser?

That's great Jeremy! Good mate for the Super TW you have.

And ahhhhhhhhh... Good luck with that 9v. :ninja: :D

Yeah I know finding a 9V is like finding a unicorn but that won't keep me from looking.

I'd consider experimenting with the OBP-2/3 or BQC in the meantime as well, but the 9V for that bass is the sound in my head, just like the 18V/DC setup kills for the TW I got from you. :bassist:

You might want to give the tone pump a chance. Many many here like it.

Yes. I checked with them earlier this year when I saw the maple & black inlay necks. $450 + shipping/tax/duty. Standard rosewood is probably about $350-400 + S/T/D (fitting acronym for how much I hate those fees :D). So, given that shipping would be $40-50, duty is a percentage of the value...say 20%, and tax where I am is 12% (which the government collects upon delivery)...I'm looking at $524 on the low side & $672 on the high side. My shipping estimates & duty could be low, too.

The luthier repairs were around that cost, too. Also, that's 50% or more of the used value of a ReBop5-DLX STOCK.

I would talk with Todd about your situation and give him some time to look at different possibilities (new, used, etc.). I'm not questioning the experience or your trust in the luthiers, just think about 'different options' and who would be better to provide these options than Todd Cooke.

Would it cheaper to have someone in the US buy it and ship it USPS to you as a low priced gift?

Would you pay the same Duty fees if a private individual sent you a neck? (Just looking at options here)

That's going to be a killer looking and sounding Euro-4! :bassist: Looking forward to seeing the finished bass.
There are literally no good re-fin guys out here. I am seriously considering looking into moving back to MD. Norway f*cking sucks for choice on instruments.
Moving could be a really good thing but starting over can be rough too...sounds like you're ready though. :)
""And the kinfolks said, "Jed, move away from there"....":D

Not that I'd ever interject myself into a conversation :)

But I replaced the EMG's in my NS-2J with DiMarzio Area J's. Interestingly enough I find the best combo for me is the neck in series and the bridge in parallel, but I'm not trying to sound like a Fender. This is actually probably pretty close to a P/J setup since it now sounds more Spector than any other Spector I've had.

Replacing the EMG's gave me more clarity and dynamics, and of course I lost the sterility and it now works great with dirt pedals. My NS-5MM also has a Bart instead of the stock EMG :)

Here's my 2J:
