I was wanting to listen to the single P but was also thinking about Todds twin J pickups I played and liking the sound...hummm...between the two for me because I have my P and J pickups in the NS2 basses.

Ok, after much deliberation I want to ditch the tone pump in my euro NS2. I'm thinking Aguilar OBP3 (I want some mid control). I don't want to modify the bass in any way, so the dual shaft pot would need to fit in the stock drilled hole. So, I defer to the experienced here… any thoughts/ input would be most appreciated!

The OBP-3 is a cool preamp but keep in mind you have no adjustable output like you do with the trim pot tone pump so it's hard to get an even level between basses if you switch throughout a set.

I'm actually really preferring my BTS preamps right now and may even throw one in my Blue euro in place for the OBP-3, though it doesn't have a mid so that would be a problem for you. I didn't do any of the preamp installation myself so I can't comment on if the OBP will be a direct fit or not.

Another thing, EMG makes one with a mid frequency sweep. The Aggie has only 2 selectable frequencies. That said, I'm very happy with the sound of my OBP3.

Yeah, the OBP-3's mid control switches between 400hz and 800hz. If one of those suits your needs then the Aggie is your pre.

The EMG BQC will sweep and therefore offers a greater ability to zero in the the frequency you want.

Now, that said, I replaced the tone pump in my Euro5 with a OBP-3 and while I was very happy with the sound/tone, I never used the mid since I always had a bass amp with sweepable mid control. Now with my NS2 and NS5XL I like to add some bass and treble and let my amp do most of the tonal shaping.

I use effects heavily in a couple situations, i'm hoping I can get things to react better with a pre, although I guess I can't rule out a possible pickup change. Maybe a passive pull option might be in order….

I found that replacing the TP with the Aggie the output became completely manageable. I only had one pedal that distorted when I rolled on some bass.

TP is hottest pre I have ever experienced. OBP-3 much tamer compared to that.
DK about pedals, I don't use them in my stuff

I just had a "Doh" moment...my band hasn't played the tuned-down songs at our last couple of gigs, so I just brought the NS-4. Also, I had an issue with my power supply, that the effects loop in my M6 magnified, creating a bagpipe-like hum. The Pedal Power 2+ fixed the problem, but I forgot to run my pedalboard through the effects loop again. No wonder the Webster was screaming so loudly at our last practice...time to dig out those two additional cables and rig the loop again.
