Has anyone used an MB200 as a headphone practice amp?? I'm selling my Carvin BX500 in favor of a smaller amp that has an aux. input.

I've been looking into the Cafe Walter practice headphone amp, but for just a few $$ more I can get a used MB200 with very similar features, but will also plug into a cab if necessary.

Here is a link to the Carvin BX500 F/S thread if anyone is interested! ...need to get this gone, so bumps are greatly appreciated!

I had the exact same conundrum a couple of years ago and ended up with the MB200. I had that for about a month then I traded it with the Ampeg PF350 because...well, I like Ampeg stuff and the possibility of actually hooking it up to a cab. But for headphone practice the MB200 is great. :bassist:

Thanks for the info Omer! That's exactly what I'm going to use it for!

I take my bass just about everyday to work and would like a little smaller amp to carry in the bag so I can actually hear myself when I get time to run scales/etc! :D

Hey guys again if anyone's interested I have a non trim tone pump for sale after putting the haz copy in my euro. Hit me up if interested. Love the tone of the haz in the euro. Not quite at the Rebop but right along those lines. And no I don't have a tone pump in my Rebop

Hey man could you email me? [email protected] , I need a tone pump, stat! I am also looking at other options to explore for a new pre-amp. Mine in my euro 4 lx went out and I am wondering if there are any other options to keep that hot spector tone whilst adding a hair more low end than the tone pump but not being quite so harsh with the treble?

You want more low end than the TP!? Geeze, my ReBop had TOO much low end with a TP. lol

If you want to squash that harshness, run the TP at 18V.

In late with the girls. Interesting history that I learned about swampy recently. She is actually a late NS4CRFM (not a Euro4 as I'd originally thought) that the Czech shop built for NAMM, hence the tube quilted wings. The original owner bought the bass from Beaver Felton at Bass Central in 2002.

I would have posted this in another forum but this thread has more people who know about Spectors and Haz Labs. I just put a 9v Haz Lab preamp in my NS5CR and the rear pickup (EMG 40 DC) is distorting. I checked all the connections, lowered the height and it's working but very distorted. When I use the blend control to isolate the front pickup, it's clean Spector sound. Roll it back even a little and it sounds like a bad fuzz pedal. The preamp originally came in a NS4 with P/J EMGs if that matters. Could it be a power issue? I've checked everything I can think of and any help would be appreciated. :help:

Oh it works, sounds great, too!

I don't think it makes a big difference in volume, but overall tone is much more clean, but still nice and aggressive like the Rex is voiced. It wasn't that hard to do, there are lots of diagrams online, it's worth a try considering its reversible too.

Maybe check the pickup connections at the posts on the pre. I know when I first soldered them, I had the leads reversed and it was giving me a distorted sound until i figured out I wired it wrong :)

Look at all the wires for that pickup and inspect for damage, make sure they are connected at the proper location using the wiring diagram, check and resolder at each location.

I think that's the problem. I just looked at the wiring diagram and the hot and ground posts are reversed. The hot is the top post on the neck pickup and on the bottom for the bridge. Thanks, I don't think I would have noticed that! :D
