I want to upgrade pickups on my NS2000/5. Need some suggestion from you guys, i'm stuck cause there are so many types, pls school me the differences between these:

EMG 45J (J pickup style in soarbar housing)
EMG 45P (P pickup style in soarbar housing)
EMG 45DC
EMG 45CS
EMG 45JCS

What's the best configuration for my bass ? I play metal (Heavy/Thrash Metal stuffs), i need punchy, growl tones.

I'm looking for opinions on the same thing but in the EMG35 housing. I do know I want the 35P in the neck position, but I really would love to know what other think about all the other possibilities, including the 35TW.

And, if anyone has any laying around they would like to get rid of, PM me.

Use the P with a DC. If you pair it with a J, it sounds a little thin.

Personally, I run dual J. :D

If you are using an NS 2000/5, you would need the 40 series (40DC, 40P , etc.) not the 45 series. The 45 series is for 6 string basses and the 40 series is for 5 strings.

OK, so how about the pros and cons of these pickup ? I think i'm gonna go with EMG40P on the neck position and EMG40DC on the bridge position + tonepump pre-amp. But i'm looking forward to hear other opinions.

Good job on the show, Ice! :)

Guys, I need to ask a favor. I cannot get a brass nut shipped to Norway from Spector, just isn't gonna happen. Can someone get one for me over there in the lad of Freedom and ship it to me? I will of course cover everything...

:)

metal bros, love your site (Link Removed). :D

Thanks!!

Lol - that stage pic just begs for a variation on the age old TB question...
...What's the best [DEL]bass[/DEL] bra for metal?

For a while there I was in complete agreement with you, anything would sound better than the non trim tone pump in my Euro. However, quite by accident a few weeks ago I plugged my Euro into an old Musicman HD150/Bergantino HT322 rig I have and - WOW. It's the perfect rig for this preamp. I couldn't be happier with the tone.

So at the end of the day it took several string swaps to find out the Elixier Nanos (still need to try some Sunbeams) along with a discontinued 30 year old amp combined with a discontinued 10 year old cab would be the silver bullet for my Euro.

Vintage baby!

I would think either EMG 40DCs or EMG 40J/J's would work best. Personally, I love Aguilar 60J/J's I have in my Coda 5XL DLX, they have tons of punch, bite. :bassist: Which I never was a J/J pickup player before this. Which is causing me to rethink pickups from now on. One really nice thing about the soap bar EMGs is that if you don't like what you hear, you can change them out so easily. :) It seems though that a lot of heavy metal guys like the EMG DCs. :bassist:
So far we have a show next Saturday and in February we have a couple shows on the 14Th and the 15Th for Valentine's Day weekend, March we have the 15Th booked (5 total so far for 2014)...they pop up quickly and I booked February 14Th today!

Thank You very much Mike.
That's outstanding Carey! I'm so happy for your band! :hyper:
I found the same with my NS2A. I had the TP in it, put in a MM114 and it sounded great. If I ever get another NS2A I will put the TP in that one. Both pres sound really good, just different. But for my ear and style of play, the MM114 was just a step above the TP.
But if your NS-2A came with the HAZ copy why would you swap it out? Or did it come to you with the TP. I love that HAZ copy pre. :)

Aren't the old classic rigs GREAT! :smug: That's why my Ampeg B-15T isn't going anywhere. It sounds warm, BIG and strong! :bassist::D

IMHO, I like J at the bridge but some guys like DC at the bridge. Preference thing.

Thanks Kyle! PM sent:)

I had to change the 9V in Iris last night, noticed at the show that I lost a little volume so I set up my rig and checked/tested everything and when I switched between the NS2 basses I found the weak link...This is the first battery change and it has lasted for almost 7 months!
The NS2A normally increases in volume right before the battery drops dead but it gives the HAZ copy a very nice grind.

For my next build I'm going with two 35Ps in an NS4. I'm liking the Pup sound. I had a BC Rich once with two P-pups and it sounded great.

Carey, I've been using one of these. Give your bass a quick test each week after 5-6 months on a battery...

I just worked on the 18 volt conversion on my Rex 5 and didn't even recognize it. Oops!!

I also don't even have the mid hooked up on my obp-3 so I can't really comment on that, never was a 3 band eq on board guy but when I ordered it they ordered the wrong one so I got a bit of a discount.

Wait a minute, I didn't know the pre on the Rex could take 18volts, thought it was limited to 9.

Does it make a difference in tone or volume?
I assume it would give you a little more headroom as well, is that correct?
